Ronan pulled out Alanah’s chair as she returned to the other side of the table. When he was seated and a server had taken their drink orders, Serena said, “You look so much better, how are you feeling?”

“Wonderful. Fully healed.”

“I’m so glad. After we eat I’ll show you my flower shop and then Galen and I can go with you for some clothes shopping.”

“Sure,” she said. “Thanks for the borrowed clothes by the way.”

Her cheeks heated as she thought about needing to replace the cami and panties she’d borrowed thanks to Ronan’s claws.

“Anytime.”

The server returned with their drinks and began to take orders when an alarm sounded.

“What the hell?” Alaric demanded. He and Slade shot out of their seats and ran to the security desk.

“Is that the fire alarm?” Taryn asked.

“Yeah, I don’t smell smoke, though,” Galen said.

Ronan sniffed the air and shook his head. “I don’t either.”

“We’ve got a bomb threat,” Alaric said, returning to the table. “Everyone outside.” He looked at Ronan and said, “You and Galen keep the females safe, Sylas you’re with me, we have to go floor to floor.”

“You bet.”

Ronan and Galen hustled her, Serena, Gretchen, Aubrey, and Taryn out of the restaurant, along with two tables of guests. As she and Ronan passed a row of cars, Ronan shoved her and Taryn with a growl.

“Run! Run damn it!”

She didn’t think, just followed the order. There was too much fear in his voice for her to question him. She, Taryn, Gretchen, and Aubrey raced away.

Something exploded.

And then there was another explosion.

Followed by a third.

The heat blasted toward them as they ran away, knocking them to the ground.

Ronan!

* * *

Ronan had only a fraction of a second to save his mate, his sister, and new friends. He caught the hint of explosives in the air and just knew he needed to get them away from where he was. With a shove to Alanah and Taryn, he shouted for them to run, spreading his arms out to herd the rest with him as they raced away.

He didn’t get far when the first explosion happened.

Followed by two more.

He was knocked over, narrowly missing the side of the building as the blast made the ground shake. His cat roared in worry as he stumbled to his feet, worried there might be more danger. Through the smoke, he saw Alanah and Taryn and the others had made it far enough away to be unharmed.

He couldn’t hear anything except the roar of his beast in his head.

Stumbling to his feet, he ignored the sear of burns from the flames that prickled his skin and made his way to his mate and the others. After ensuring his sister and mate were okay, he and Galen turned back to help the people who’d been in the restaurant with them, carrying an unconscious female out of danger.

Alaric rushed up to them as Ronan set the female on the ground, then moved to Alanah.

His hearing came back suddenly and he winced at the sharp pain before it disappeared.
