She gave me this disgusted look like I was moving in on her turf or something. I stuck out my hand to shake hers. “Nice to meet you.”
She returned the shake with a limp hand. “Likewise.” She looked back at him, and I was invisible once again. “So, will you come to sit with us, Linky?”
“Maybe in a bit; I’m quite enjoying the company here right now.” He looked back at me, and I swear he made my panties wet just by smiling.
“Suit yourself,” she said as she rolled her eyes and walked away.
I smiled at him. “Friend of yours?”
“More like a casual sex acquaintance,” he shrugged. “We slept together once, and she teaches at the same school I do. She’s interested, I’m not.” He ran the lip of his beer bottle over his smile and took a sip.
I leaned in a little toward the table. “Got it; seeing her daily must be awkward, no?”
“Nah, it takes a lot to make me uncomfortable. I don’t let my emotions get involved. Luckily we work on opposite sides of the building. She always finds reasons to see me though. It’s a crush. Nothing crazy. I just don’t want to hurt her feelings so I just brush her off. We hang with the same people sometimes so I don’t want to make it awkward.”
I took the comment about making him feel uncomfortable as a challenge. “Good to know you care so much.”
We sat silently for a moment as I sipped the rest of my drink. Callie came back, grabbed my hand, and pulled me up onto my feet. “Let’s go dance.”
I set my empty drink down and let her pull me along. I mouthed sorry, and he motioned to say go ahead. I could feel him watching me. I tried my hardest not to look over to see if he was still at our table, but every time Imanaged to sneak a look, he was. He sat there with a huge grin on his face, elbow on the table, and his finger tracing his lips. He stared at me like he was assessing me.
“He’s staring,” Callie whispered.
I pinched her side. “I see that. Just ignore it. Maybe he will go back to his friends.”
“Ow,” she laughed. “You should ask him to dance. He would be a lot more fun to rub up against than me. Maybe even get him to take you for a ride,” she winked.
I gave her a knowing grin. “No one’s better than you,” I winked back at her.
“You told me he was a hottie, but damn girl. He’s like the fucking sun, he’s so hot. Are you going for it? Maybe you can call him Daddy.” Then she made a vulgar humping motion that I’m sure he saw.
“Callie,” I dragged her name out. “Down girl.” We were both giggling uncontrollably now. That is our sign that we’ve had enough to drink for now, but I didn’t say no to the idea of going for it.
A few moments later, she leaned in and said, “Okay, don’t freak, but he’s walking this way.” I turned, and there he was.
“May I have this dance m’lady?” He did a dorky bow and put his hand out for me. It’s as if he knew the song was changing, the music soon faded into a slow song.
“Of course, you can,” Callie said as she pushed me into his arms. He caught me. “I have to call my mom anyway. I forgot to tell her we made it here okay.” I gave her the ‘I’m going to kill you look’.
He leaned his head toward my ear. “She really isn’t subtle,” He chuckled. He slid one of his hands down my lower back, instantly sending tingles down my spine. I couldn’t help the goosebumps that formed over my body from his touch.
“Nope, but that’s why she’s the perfect best friend. I never have to wonder what she’s thinking or if she’s lying.”
“That’s a good way to look at it.” He leaned down and whispered, “You look beautiful tonight, by the way. I don’t think I’ve said that yet.”
“No, you haven’t.” I smiled and tentatively placed my head on his shoulder. We danced for about a minute or so.
“You never answered my question before.”
“What question would that be?” I looked him right in the eyes, knowing exactly what he was talking about.
He smiled. “Are you single, or is some poor guy missing his perfect girl back home?”
I was so turned on that I could barely speak. I gulped. “Yeah,” I choked out.
“Yeah, to which one?” he asked as he raised one eyebrow in question.
“I’m single. You think I would have let you this close to me if I had a boyfriend?”
