“What are you writing over there?” I know I had absolutely no right to ask, but I did anyway.

He looked up at me from Pop’s desk. “Nothing, just some stuff for work.”

“You hide everything you write for work?”

“I’m not hiding it.”

I started thinking about how amazing last night was. I really didn’t want to cause a fight, so I let it go.

“Okay.” I began walking back out front when I heard the wheels on the desk chair move so I turned around just as he was walking up to me.

“Don’t do that,” he said calmly.

“Do what?”

“Don’t downplay when something is bothering you.”

This man… “Link, I really am fine. If you say it’s nothing, then it’s nothing. Right?”

He pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head. “Yeah, right.”

I looked up at him and kissed his lips fleetingly before I walked back out front. I am trying my best to work on my trust issues with him, and maybe this is just the first step.

I told Link I would walk home so he could go right to dinner. I gave him a quick hug and kiss to say goodbye. After I walked away, Link quickly came up behind me putting his chin on my shoulder and put his arms around me before I even made it out the door.

“We’re good right?” he asked

“We are fine, don’t think anything of it.”

“Are you sure you can’t come with me?” He started kissing my neck trying to persuade me.

“I’ll miss you too,” I said with a giggle.

His mouth felt so good on my neck. I was thinking about telling him to just come home with me, but I knew he had to do this for work.

My next sentence came out more unsure. “You will have fun, and I will be there when you get home.”

“Promise?” he asked.

“I promise.” I turned toward him and put my arms around his neck to look up at him. He looked nervous, but I could tell he had something to say.

“So, can I tell them you’re my girlfriend?”

He had the cutest damn nervous smile on his face. Could this man be any more perfect?

I blushed because the question surprised me a little. “Am I your girlfriend, Lincoln Matthew? I don’t recall being asked.”

“God, I hope so,” he blurted out as he grabbed my ass with both hands. “I don’t want anyone else ever getting to kiss and touch you like I do. I want you to be mine.” He leaned in and gave me a deep, passionate, mind-blowing kiss.

His directness turned me on.

I put my lips to his ear, “Then I’m yours.”

He smiled and kissed me again to say goodbye.

A boyfriend. I have a boyfriend! I texted my friends in a group chat, including Brie, and they were ecstatic. Callie said she made a bet with Nick that it would happen, so although he was happy for me, he was pissed. Now he owes her fifty dollars because he didn’t believe I would actually start dating anyone, let alone someone from another state.

After talking with them for a while, I texted my parents to say hello. I omitted the boyfriend thing, even though Brie would probably tell them when she called them to check in. She’s got a big mouth, but I don’t feel like giving a million details or answering questions about anything, especially about going home.
