Enzo opens the door of Luca’s Chevelle and props his arm against the roof. “Since we have to drop you off, do you feel like ordering some pizza for lunch since we were such a great help today?”

I huff out a laugh and notice the red has cleared. “Tell Sebastian and Dante to meet us there. We can strategize while we eat.”

Luca and Enzo climb in the car, but I grab his arm before Finn can walk to the other side. “You good?”

“That’s the second time, Mac. When I saw him outside the coffee, I couldn’t move, and today I just heard his voice through a phone, and I fucking froze. What am I going to do when the time comes? When it matters?”

“You won’t freeze, Finn. When it matters, you won’t freeze.”

“How do you know?”

“Because when it matters most, it’ll be for her. For Harper. Your Angel.” Finn lets out a harsh breath, and I know what I said sank in. I mean every word. “Come on, let’s get these assholes some food.”

When the four of us return to the apartment, Sebastian and Dante are already there and working on polishing off the first of four pizzas. On instinct, my eyes scan the room for Harper, and I look over to find Mac doing the same thing. Ronan must pick up on it. “She’s in her room. She’s been sleeping most of the afternoon.”

Luca follows Enzo, who’s bitching that they already finished the Meat Lover’s pizza, and rubs a hand down the back of Sebastian’s hair. Sebastian doesn’t say anything but looks up at him the way Harper does me.

Feeling like I’m intruding on a moment, I look at Mac and nod in the direction of Harper’s room. We can eat after we see her. There will never be a time again, for as long as I live, when my first instinct isn’t to go to her.

Mac and I quietly shuffle into her room and move toward her bed. She’s sprawled out on her stomach in the middle of the king-sized mattress. Her hair is spread across her pillow, with both hands tucked underneath. The white duvet is pulled down to her waist, leaving her bare back exposed, just begging me to run my fingers along her spine, so I do. As my finger trails up the curve of her back, Mac bends down and places a soft kiss against her cheek. She begins to stir but doesn’t open her eyes. “Mac? Finn?”

Without even looking at us, she knew we were here. “Shhh, Mo Grá,” Mac whispers, “Go back to sleep. We just wanted to see you.”

“Did you find them?” she mumbles into her pillow.

“We found them, Angel. We made them pay, I promise.”

She doesn’t so much as flinch at the menacing undertone of my words and instead snuggles further into her pillow. “Hmmm, thank you. I love you.”

“We love you, Pretty Girl.”

I softly kiss her shoulder blade, and Mac and I move toward the door before I stop. “Harper.”

“Mmmm.” Her grumble sounding annoyed that I’m still talking.

“Luca and the guys are here. So when you wake up, please put some clothes on.”

I expect her to mumble something incoherent, but what she says makes Mac bark out a laugh and me palm my dick through my jeans. “Yes, Daddy.”

This fucking woman.

Softly I close the door and turn around to face Mac, who’s still laughing his ass off. “If you don’t shut the hell up.” He continues, so I jet my fist out and punch him in the stomach; he doubles over, and his childish laughing stops. And just to be an asshole right back, I say, “That’s a good boy,” before stepping around him.

I hear him rumbling something about not being his favorite anymore as he rights himself and follows me back toward the kitchen.

“How’s our girl?” Ronan asks as I stand next to him and grab a slice of Margherita.

“Sassy as ever.”

He huffs a laugh, and a smile takes over his face. “Good.”

After giving everyone time to stuff their faces, Mac, Luca, Enzo, and I fill the rest of the guys in on what happened.

Ronan clears his throat and wipes his hands on a napkin. “You already called the cleanup crew?”
