Epilogue

Mia

Two Years Later…

“Did we really have to move apartments? I mean, seriously, I thought there was nothing wrong with the one we had,” I called to Terry as I hung the last picture in my home office.

“This is our place. This is a fresh start and a new beginning. It’s important to me and I thought we were both in agreement with this move,” Terry said, coming into the office to examine my handiwork.

“We were. I just hate the amount of work all of this unpacking is.” I pouted as I turned to face him. He looked so delectable standing in front of me in a white T-shirt and dark jeans. There were no shoes on his feet—they were bare, and I was never more turned on.

“You look like you’re up to no good,” Terry told me with a laugh as I stalked toward him.

“Maybe,” I said, my arms encircling him.

“Are you glad we did this? Or do you hate it?” he asked me.

I loved this apartment. I truly did. It took us forever to find something near my office that had enough room for a darkroom to be installed, an office for me, and a spare bedroom for guests. But we had done it. After six months of looking, we had done it. We had been basically living together ever since that Sunday we got back together in the park. Neither one of us wanted to sleep separately, so we didn’t.

Terry had been the one to suggest it. A brand-new space for brand-new dreams and a brand-new start. I was on board with it. I hated to give up our original apartment. It held so many wonderful memories there, both from the past and our new ones. But we had each other, and we had the many photographs we loved to take of each other.

This place was a fresh start. It was a good thing. The one good thing that had come out of a lot of bad.

I wrapped my lips around Terry’s earlobe and sucked on it. He moaned at the contact.

“Hang on, little lady. We’ve got to get some boxes unpacked. We have a house-warming party happening in two days, and we can’t keep having sex and avoiding it.”

“Are you really denying me?” I asked, pouting again.

“Oh, trust me, sweetheart, I don’t want to,” he said, extracting himself from me. “Now come with me. I came in here to get you because there’s one box I need you to take a look at in the living room. I’m not quite sure what to do with it.

“Ugh, okay, fine. Let’s see what you’ve got,” I said, trailing him out of my office and into the living room. The living room that was done in light purples and grays with gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that allowed for a beautiful view of the city. We even had a nice patio area we could place some furniture on and maybe even a garden. I was giddy with all the possibilities this place held.

“It’s that one over there,” Terry said, gesturing to a box that sat in front of the large L-shaped couch.

“Who packed that one? I don’t recognize it,” I told him as I made my way over to it.

“I don’t know. Maybe it was Ally,” he said with a shrug. Ally had helped with a lot of the packing, so that could have easily been the case.

“Okay, let’s see what we’ve got here.” I sat down in front of the box and ripped the tape off it. Inside, I found a smaller white box. I looked up at Terry. “What is this?”

He smiled at me and said, “Just open it.”

“Okay,” I said. I picked up the white box and took the lid off. Inside was another box. It was small and black and looked like the perfect size for a ring. I gasped and looked up at Terry.

He had hit his knee.

“What is happening?”

“Open it,” he instructed.

My heart hammered in my chest. Slowly and carefully, I lifted the black box out and popped it open. Inside was a teardrop-shaped diamond set into a white gold band. I gasped at the sight of it.

“It’s so beautiful.”

“Just like you,” Terry replied. Carefully, he lifted the ring from the box and looked into my eyes. “Mia, we have been through so much together. It’s made us stronger. It’s made us better friends and lovers. There will never be another woman that will complete me and share my passion for photography, life, and love the way you do. Will you do me the honor of allowing me to love you forever? Will you be my wife, Mia Blake?”

Tears streamed down my face as he made his speech. I had always dreamed of this moment since we were together for the first time, and it was absolutely perfect.
