“Thank you,” Derek says, “but I didn’t order this.”

“Oh, I know, I know,” she says in broken English. “But I wanted to.” And before we can say another word, she’s gone.

“Thank you,” I call after her. She turns and waves, reentering the taco truck.

“So, tell me why I wouldn’t be so distracted by the fact I actually got to kiss you that I wouldn’t register your moans.” His voice is so low that no one else can hear him speak.

I smile and lean in closer to him. “Because you are Derek Walsh, the lead singer of Crave, and I’m sure you had many a woman throw themselves at you, and a lot of pussy at that. Why would I even register?”

“Say that again,” he commands, leaning in further.

“Say what?” I breathe out.

“Pussy.”

I flush red. “Pussy.”

He squirms in his seat, and I swear he just adjusted himself. “That’s hot. I’ve never heard you talk like that. And for the record, Audrey, it doesn’t matter how much pussy I’ve had or who I am, you do things to me.” He takes a bite of his taco.

I get warm all over and just stare at him, not sure what to do next. The things that come out of Derek’s mouth turn me into putty.

“Eat your dinner, Aud.”

We finish up our food mostly in silence. I moan every once in a while at the taste of the delicious food, and Derek keeps adjusting himself as he we eat. Apparently, I’m making things hard for him.

“That was so delicious. Thank you,” I say once we’re back in his Jeep.

He looks over at me and smirks. “I could tell that you were really enjoying it.”

I blush and shake my head.

“Stop,” he commands, making my head snap over in his direction. “Don’t be embarrassed. I thought it was really cute.” He captures my lips in his, and I resist the urge to moan into his mouth.

When we finally break apart, I ask him, “Where to now?” My voice comes out all soft and breathy. Darkness pools in his eyes, and I wonder if I’m affecting him the same way he’s affecting me.

“Well, it’s not home yet,” he tells me, gripping the steering wheel. “If that’s what you were hoping for.”

I giggle. “Well, at some point, I’m hoping for that.”

He snickers. “I’m sure that can be arranged. But for night now, we’re gonna head downtown and listen to some music.”

“I wasn’t aware Corolla had a downtown,” I tease him. It’s such a quaint and quiet beach town. I didn’t imagine or remember it having much of a nightlife.

“Okay, well, maybe the next town over.” He rolls down the windows and begins to drive. The smell of the sea air fills the car. I lean back in my seat and breathe it all in. As he drives, his hand rests on my thigh. We ride in silence the entire time, but it’s a comfortable silence, like we’ve been doing this for years and could do it for the rest of our lives. I know I could.

We pull into this little hole-in-the-wall bar. It’s down by the water and looks like someone has repurposed a building that was down by the docs for a bar. I almost expect to see some boats and jet skis when we walk inside. Derek takes my hand and leads the way into the bar.

I don’t miss the jolt of electricity that shoots through me when he takes my hand. He must feel it too because he looks over his shoulder and shoots me a wink. I melt inside. I don’t care if this is the only date we ever go on. I want it to last forever. It want to be able to take these moments and commit them to memory. I don’t ever want to forget the way it felt when he told me what I do to him, the way he kissed me in the car, and how his hand feels rested in mine right now.

We reach the entrance, and a man is standing there at the door. Derek goes up to him, still holding my hand, and they have a few words. I have no idea what’s being said, but eventually he pats Derek on the back, and we make our way inside.

“Everything okay?” I ask, confused by the whole interaction.

“Yeah, just had to inquire about who was here tonight. Gotta make sure it’s no one that can blow my cover.”

I’m suddenly so glad that he planned this date night; those are things that I never would have thought of. Although my idea of a date night would be dinner, drinks, and maybe a movie.

We make our way over the bar. He turns to me, asking, “What will you have?”
