He smirks. “Baby, you have no idea.”

I punch him in the shoulder. He fakes hurt and I shake my head as he laughs at me.

“Oh, relax. I only have eyes for you.” He leans over and gives me a kiss.

The rest of the flight goes by without incident. Once we arrive in LA, Derek leads me through the crowded airport and over to baggage claim.

“So, do they send a car for you? Or how does this work?”

I laugh. “Well, Mr. Famous Rock Star, it’s not like when you travel to LA. I take myself to the studio, which we need to head to now so that I can get some filming in. I have a tight schedule.”

He chuckles. “I’ll bet you do. Do we have time to make out in the cab?”

I shake my head. “We do not. Now let’s get a move on.”

When we arrive at the studio, the crew takes me immediately to get me set up and ready. The producer is kind enough to give Derek a place where he can watch from. While I’m getting ready, he meets the rest of the crew and the small cast they’ve brought in for me to do the workouts with.

“How many will you do today?” he asks me when he sees me in my lime green sports bra and matching leggings. “I like this, by the way. Do you get to take it with you?”

“Sometimes I get to take some of my favorite pieces with me, but don’t rip it. I might need it for reshoots.”

“Oh, I make no promises.”

“Well, then you can’t take this one off me.”

“Strip show, I like it,” he says, squeezing my ass.

“Not while I’m on set,” I warn him.

“Okay, fine. I’ll be a professional. Wouldn’t want you to look bad in front of your people.”

I think he means it, but with the way his eyes keep wandering my body, I’m not so sure that he does.

I make my way over and we begin filming. We arrived in LA at three o’clock and at the studio by four thirty. I’d like to think they’ll take it easy on me, but I’m seeing that’s not going to be the case. But to Derek’s credit, he’s being so patient and watching and waiting. I make my way over to him on a break.

“Hey, I’m sorry this is taking so long.”

“Why are you apologizing? You’re doing your job. It’s completely fine. Just keep on doing what you have to do, and I will be here waiting when you’re done.”

I smile at him, and I can’t imagine how I got so lucky. It’s been a long day, and he’s in his hometown. He could easily go to his apartment or over to the studio or even hang out with friends. But he stays with me instead. No one is supposed to know he’s here. So, we’ll be lying pretty low in LA, which I’m okay with. Usually when I’m here, I don’t go out to eat a lot. I spend most days filming and then eat dinner in my room. Or on set, depending on how late they keep me. Part of me thinks Derek is looking forward to this type of schedule, where we can just go from the hotel to the studio and back—no pressures or expectations for him.

The guys still think he’s in Corolla. I’m just hoping the press doesn’t catch wind of it. They know he’ll be heading to LA in a few days, which is when we’ll let them know he’s here. Because Aiden has my schedule, he’s asked me to stay in LA for a few days to hang out a bit. That’s perfect for Derek and me. I wanted him to stay with Aiden anyway. I just hope we can keep everything from the band.

“Hey, a penny for your thoughts,” he says, bopping me on the nose.

“Sorry, I was just thinking things over.”

“You nervous? You seem nervous.”

“On-set jitters, I guess.” I shake out my legs and do a few stretches.

“You’re gonna be great,” he tells me, giving me a comforting hug. “I love you, and I’ll be waiting for you as long as you need me to be.”

“Thank you.”

I love the support he’s showing me by being here. Not everyone would agree that this is as important as his work, but it is to me. This is only my third program shoot with Beachbody, and each time they ask me back, I’m so surprised. It’s something I never just assume will happen. It doesn’t feel like a given. It feels like I must prove myself each time I do it.

“Audrey,” the producer calls with a wave.
