“I don’t think I’m supposed to,” Aiden quips.

We both share a laugh. I look over at Derek and wink, then I move closer and put my arm around him. “If he makes me happy, how can it really be that bad?”

“Sure, it’s all great now, but what happens when he goes back to banging girls backstage? You act like he’s never had a relationship before. But when he’s on tour while he’s dating them, all of that goes out the window.”

My smile falters, and I look at my feet.

Aiden smiles triumphantly, like he’s just made his point in the best way possible. “See, you had no idea about that, did you? Casanova never told you.”

“I know you think I’m no good for her, Ace,” Derek begins. “But no one will love her like I do. I would never treat her like those other girls.”

“How do you expect me to believe that?” Aiden asks.

“You just have to trust me. You used to trust me.”

“That was before.”

“Really?” Derek shakes his head. “If you remember, I never wanted to do this with Serena. But you all thought this was the best idea ever, so I went along with it. And look how it turned out.”

“You had one job, man. You were supposed to lie low. That’s why we agreed to let you go out to Corolla in the first place. I had no idea you’d make a move on my sister.”

Derek smirks. “Oh yeah, because I’m this horrible manwhore. There’s no way your sister made any moves on me.”

Aiden visibly cringes. I laugh and he shoots me a glare.

“Aiden, you gotta get past this,” I tell him as I grab Derek’s hand. “I love him, and you can’t keep us apart. This isn’t something you get a say in.”

I lean in and give Derek a kiss. He kisses me back gently.

“Stop it,” Brent says.

“I don’t approve of this,” Aiden says in a low voice.

“But you’ll work on it once you see that I’m serious about her?” Derek asks.

“We’ll see. I make no promises,” Aiden says.

“Aiden, maybe give them both a break. Things are going to be hard enough for them. Let’s let them breathe a bit,” Brent suggests.

“What did Beachbody want?” Aiden asks me.

“Tina called to say that she’s holding my new program. Ed wants to meet with me—as in the CEO of the company. So that should be fun,” I quip, rolling my eyes.

“Think they’ll fire you?” Derek asks.

“I have no idea,” I admit, shrugging. My shoulders sag forward as I consider all the other ramifications this could have. I wonder what the NC Courage will think of all this. I hate to even think of that conversation.

“I told her our PR services could help her too,” Dale says from the back of the room.

I’m not sure when he came into the room, but he’s just that slimy that he comes into the room without being noticed.

“You know you could give her up,” Dale tells Derek. “Make this a whole lot easier on all of us.”

“Fat fucking chance,” Derek replies.

“She better be worth it,” Dale shoots back.

“She fucking is.” Derek pulls me into a hug and holds me.
