Angie’s heart sunk as she watched Rochelle dragging Jeremy down the hallway. When they reached the end, Jeremy turned to look at her. He frowned and shook his head.

Damn it. Angie didn’t stand a chance competing for Jeremy’s attention with a woman like Rochelle around.

Not that she was surprised to hear that Jeremy had been with other women. He was twenty-seven years old and a handsome man. Angie couldn’t hold that against him, but she sure wished she could be the one who stopped his wandering eye. Now, Angie would never have her shot. The wanton hussy had beat her to it and was undoubtedly offering to blow his mind.

CHAPTER TWO

A few hours later, Jeremy searched the dining hall where the wedding party was gathering for the rehearsal dinner. As he scanned the room, Jeremy saw Angie. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. And he’d waited three long years to tempt and claim her for his own.

When Jeremy had been back to see his high school best friend, Niles, the summer three years before, he’d fallen hard for Angie, but she’d been too young for him. As a result, he’d spent their time apart in self-imposed exile.

And despite what Rochelle thought, he’d been celibate during those years. Granted, he’d been no angel before then, but his feelings for Angie would not be tainted by frivolous sexual relief. That was what hands were for.

As Jeremy approached the table where Angie was seated, his pulse quickened. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a tent with his name on it next to Rochelle’s tag. Not going to happen. Jeremy grabbed his nametag and carried it with him. There was no way in hell he was spending the evening sitting next to that barracuda.

“Is this seat taken?” Jeremy asked as he picked up the tag in the spot next to Angie and read it.

“Well, it was supposed to be.” Angie raised her eyebrows.

“How well do you know, Jeff Barron?”

“He’s a friend of Niles from work.”

“How old is he?”

Angie shrugged. “I guess he’s in his early twenties.”

Jeremy growled. Damn it. Niles was trying to set Angie up with some dude. “Good looking?”

“Sure.”

“Married?”

“No.”

“He’s not sitting here.” Jeremy put his tent down next to Angie’s spot and carried Jeff Barron’s tag to Rochelle’s table. Good luck, Jeff. She’ll eat you alive.

When he returned to Angie, Jeremy pulled out his seat and settled in next to her. “How’ve you been?”

“Like today or the last three years?”

“Either.” Jeremy stared into her big blue eyes and felt his heart flutter in his chest.

“Well, I graduated from high school while taking dual credits for college. Started college. Worked at a café this summer. And babysat the summers before that.”

“Dating?” He held his breath. Would he be too late? He’d waited an extra year before he’d come back because Jeremy knew her brother would have kittens over the whole thing, and he’d wanted to make sure he was financially solid.

“Am I dating anyone?”

“Yes.”

“No.” Angie fiddled with the spoon beside her plate. “You and Rochelle seemed pretty tight.”

“I’ve known her for a few years. I met her before Bailey and Niles met each other. But we’ve never been close.”

“You have sex with her?”

Jeremy coughed. “No. Hell, no. She’s a total vapid witch.”
