“Asshole.” Charlie cursed. “I hate men like him. They are trash that think they’re better than they truly are.”
“Charlie, before we go any farther, I need to tell you I’m planning on leaving Sweetclover.”
“Why?”
“Eddie is only going to get worse and eventually I will either have to give him what he wants or I will lose my job. I would rather just leave and start over.”
“How soon is soon?” Charlie asked.
“Two, three weeks at the most.”
“Then we have that time to spend together.”
“What?” I smiled at him.
“I have been a vampire for twenty years and I was a human for twenty-two years before that. There is something about you that I cannot put words to. I want to spend time with you and as much as I can.”
“Even with me moving?”
“Yes.”
His words moved my soul.
CHAPTER FOUR
The drive took almost two hours. Charlie eventually reached over and took my hand as we drove. We spent the time talking with one another. What I discovered about Charlie was that he was smart. He read anything he could get his hands on. When Charlie became a vampire, he was a poor farm hand. Becoming a vampire made him realize what he could do for himself. He learned how to read and after that he was unstoppable. I was impressed with his desire to build a life.
We arrived at a dirt lot that was surrounded by tall green grass and wildflowers. The rich smell of summer was everywhere. Charlie climbed out of the car and came over to my door, opening it for me. I took his hand as I stepped out of the car. Tall, red rocks sat in the distance. He led me through the grass and towards the red rocks. Grasshoppers jumped around us as we walked forward. We reached beautiful, clear water that was circled by two tall red rocks with water pouring down between the two. The sound of the rushing water and the smell of the wildflowers was peaceful. I looked at Charlie and smiled. He released my hand as he kicked off his shoes and began to unbutton his shirt. I found a large boulder and leaned against it as I took off my pumps. I placed them on the ground and reached around to unzip my dress. I let my dress fall to the ground and stepped out of it. Charlie looked at me as he undid his belt and smiled. I didn’t wait for him to finish undressing. I walked into the water, feeling the chill of it. I moved deeper into the water and dived under, swimming into the center of the pond. I wiped the water away from my face and looked around. Charlie was nowhere to be seen.
“CHARLIE!” I yelled as I spun around in the water.
“Up here!”
I turned in the water again and looked up. Charlie was standing on top of one of the large mountains of rocks. He took a step back from the edge and then ran forward, launching himself into the air. He dived into the water, creating a splash. I started to giggle as he came back up. He shook his head, sending water flying.
“What do you think?” Charlie asked.
“It’s wonderful.”
“I had a feeling you would love it.”
I smiled at Charlie before I splashed him with water. He looked at me for a moment before he splashed me back. That was all it took, we splashed one another until Charlie grabbed me and pulled me to him. There was a moment as he held me to him. I couldn’t stop my desire for him. I kissed Charlie. It was a slow kiss that took my breath away. Charlie ended our kiss, pulling back to look at me. He paused for a moment before kissing me again. We both slowly opened our mouths to each other. My body tightened, making me want more from him. Charlie’s large hands moved down my back, holding me to him. I wrapped my arms around his neck, my legs going around his waist. We kissed for a moment longer before Charlie stopped it once more. I looked at him.
“What is it?”
“I want you, but not like this.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, confused.
As a hellborn, we did not have the same concept of sex as humans did. They had the belief that it was meant for procreation and you did not speak about it. For hellborns, we saw it as part of our nature.
“You are special and I want to treat you as such. I want to take my time with you.”
I said nothing for a moment. I had never met any male who felt that way about any female, let alone me.
“Okay.”
“Come on. Let’s have some more fun.”
