“I’m going to go deal with the front desk. I’ll meet you two out front.” Savi waved as she dashed out the door, leaving Sloane and me to dress.

I reached into the locker and pulled out my dress. I should have known better and worn jeans on a day like today. Though the rain looked like it was tapering off when we left, it had come back tenfold to prove it wasn’t going anywhere any time soon. I should have listened to Keith’s warning to bring warm clothes. But I seriously hated any kind of jeans or pants. I tugged on the dress and was glad I’d at least brought a sweater.

“We’ve had a few women come through the house for multiple reasons.” Sloane slipped her shirt over her head. “Savi was always her kind self. She entertained and so on. Then you showed up, and she saw you.”

“Saw me?” I didn’t follow.

“Yeah. You fit in without even trying. Like you are a part of the family already.”

“That’s nice.” I threaded the belt around my waist.

“The guys love Ty. He is one of the best hires we’ve had in a long time. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind he’ll make a great team leader.”

“I bet he’d like to hear that.”

“But that’s why Savi is acting the way she is right now,” she stopped to looked at me, “playing matchmaker with you two. Ty isn’t leaving, but you might be.”

“I don’t know what will happen after…” I stopped myself.

“She doesn’t want you to leave.” She continued to dress. “None of us want you to, to be honest.”

“I really like it here, but I do have a life back in Washington.” I pulled out my sweater and umbrella.

“Look,” Sloane closed her locker, “I can help you.”

“With?”

“With whatever it is that’s going on.”

“I can’t legally talk about it.”

“Right. But you could if I was your lawyer.”

“Frank got me representation.”

“Fire him. I’ll work my ass off on your case, and you’ll have someone who you’ll know is really going to go to bat for you.”

I bit my lip and thought about it for a moment. I really would love to have someone here I could talk to about it besides my uncle. He worried too much as it was.

“Look, Ivy, I had a client come after me because of a verdict he didn’t like.” Sloane looked at me as she spoke. “They attacked me in my own home and tried to kidnap me.” She swallowed, and her eyes went glossy. “I know how helpless one can feel and how much damage that feeling can bring a person, even if you think you have everything under control.” I felt my own eyes water.

“It was scary, and there’s still days I struggle with feeling safe in my own skin, but I let people in, and I’m getting through it. I know you have Frank and Doc on your side, but having another woman in your corner is another level of strength to have. Let me help you, Ivy.”

I brushed a tear away and let out a long breath.

“Ready?” Savi called from the doorway.

“Okay,” I nodded at Sloane, “I’d like that a lot.” She pulled me in and hugged me.

“Let’s chat tomorrow, but tonight we have fun.”

“Lord, I feel like I’m waiting on Mark,” Savi huffed, and we both laughed as we headed for the door.

Quinn and Dell drove us to Zack’s, where the guys were already into their first pitcher of beer.

“Well, now,” Cole stood and greeted Savi with a kiss, “look at you three.”

“Hello, my other half.” John handed Sloane a drink. “How was your day?”
