“No, I was told to move them the second they arrived. I know whose head will roll if any of them are marked.”

“Mr. Noah?” The head coyote stopped the girls in front of me. “Which truck?”

“This one.” I patted the side of Chili’s truck. The coyote motioned for the guys to load the girls. He kept a strong hold on the girl he escorted.

“This one goes with you.”

“No, they’re going with the buyer tonight.” My voice was steel. I didn’t like being questioned.

“No,” he held up his phone, and I saw the call was connected to Castillo, “he wants a word.”

The fuck. A cold prickle shot up my back as I lifted the phone to my ear.

“Noah,” I offered as a hello.

“Eric, I heard your buyer got nervous and picked the girls up tonight.”

“Yeah, something’s got him spooked.” I left out it was my man that spooked him.

“Fine. Get the money before he leaves. But you’ll personally escort the one I indicated.”

“What am I to do with her?”

“You’ll take her back to your place. I’ll be in touch.”

“Understood.” I hung up and handed the phone to the coyote, and he shoved the girl at me.

“I paid for four girls, not three, Eric.” Chili called out.

“I know. I’ll figure it out. You have my word. You know where to find me if I don’t.” I grabbed the girl’s arm and pushed her toward the truck Alejandro was in. “Get out,” I ordered, and he jumped out holding the door open for the girl. I helped her in, as the rope made it nearly impossible for her to lift her foot up to the step, then slammed the door.

“What’s going on, boss?” Alejandro looked worried.

“I’ve no fucking idea.” I rubbed my lips. I felt uneasy about the entire drop. “Meet me back at my place.” He went to leave, but I snagged his shoulder. “Don’t let Filippo out of your sight.”

“Okay.” He nodded and left. As I got into the truck, I glanced back at Chili, who was watching me. I was sure he was as jumpy as I was about the entire exchange. In this business, anything off the norm was cause for concern. Lives were cheap.

I better not be gettin’ fucking played here.

We all left in different directions, and as we hit the road on the way to my place, I got a call.

“Noah.”

“I have eyes on you.” Castillo flooded my speakers. “Don’t make any stops. Just head right to your place.”

“That was the plan.” I searched my mirrors and saw a brown car three lengths back.

“Making history means covering all the bases, Eric.” I heard the Zippo light. “She’ll stay in your pen until I say otherwise.”

“Chili paid for four elite girls. He wasn’t happy.”

“He’ll get his fourth. One comes in tomorrow. I’ll have one of my men deal with her. You watch this one personally.”

“Understood.” I disconnected the call. I rubbed my chin and wondered if they’d bugged my truck. I knew it wasn’t earlier, as I always checked. I decided to play it safe and figure it was.

I glared at the woman behind me. What the hell was going on? When the traffic slowed, I reached back and tried to grab the cloth bag off her head, but she screamed and tried to hit me.

“You want to see, or do you want to stay in the dark?” I shouted. The bag moved in and out of her mouth as she fought to breathe. “Move forward. I don’t have much time before we start moving again.” Slowly, she leaned forward, and I was able to tug the bag off. Her hair was wild around her face. She blinked and squinted to adjust to the light as she brushed her hair away awkwardly with her bound hands.

“You thirsty?” I tossed her back a bottle of water, but she chucked it back at me, her eyes full of fury. “Fine.”

“You seriously don’t know what you’ve done! You’re in for a shit pile of trouble,” she spat.

“Oh, yeah?” I kind of liked her spark. “And what did I just do?”

“You just kidnapped a Blackstone wife.”

The End
