Davie and Chamness parked ahead of us and waved as they hurried inside.

“What’s up?” She looked at me as I pressed her shoulder against the seat to hold her there a second. I slid close, cupped her head, and pressed my lips to hers. Our tongues danced, and I savored her taste and inhaled her fresh scent. I slid my hand up her bare thigh and she shivered at my touch. She moaned and opened her mouth to take more of me. She put her hand in my hair and her fingers drove me into a frenzy. It took everything in me to pull away.

The more I had her, the more I craved her, and I wasn’t sure how to get my head on straight without another fix.

“You good?” I muttered against her lips.

“Of course.” She tucked our conversation away and reached for the door handle before I could stop her.

“Where ya going?” My erection strained against my zipper.

“I can’t have you getting sick of me, Beckett.” She reached for her bag, and when she leaned over, I got a good show of her plump breasts. I groaned and reluctantly opened my door with a curse and joined her.

“For the record, I’d never grow sick of you,” I murmured into her ear.

“Mmhmm,” she laughed. “Listen, you, we need to get inside and get ourselves back into the mindset of the house.” She chuckled again when I quickly leaned in from behind and pecked her neck. “You’re not helping.” She giggled as I cupped her ass. “Waiting will make it that much better.” She winked and opened the door. We both stepped inside the warm house.

“I wonder where everyone is.” Ivy shrugged. “I’m going up to change.” She jogged up the stairs. “I’ll see you in a few.” I wanted to talk more about her comment on the notebook, but now wasn’t the time. She was right; we were back in work mode.

The place smelled like fresh cookies, and it captured my stomach’s attention as I closed the door behind me. I could hear Moore’s voice and headed toward it to find him with John and Mike in the living room. When he spotted me, he quickly crossed the living room to meet me at the door. Mike and John both hit their phones.

“Hi. So, it’s great you’re back, congratulations on taking down a psycho killer, but we’re dealing with our own problem here.”

“Which is?” I dropped my bag at my feet. I was all ears, as I could feel his concern.

“Keith’s son, Brandon, is missing over at Dusk.”

“What?” My gaze flew to Keith, who sat at the dining room table on the phone with a map in front of him.

“Keith says he’s got to be still on the grounds. The kids are under orders not to leave the property. All the guys there are out looking.”

“Maybe it wasn’t the best thing to send the kids there.” I chewed my lip. “At least Brandon. Maybe he needed to be here with his dad. I mean, his mom being taken and all, he’s probably all messed up in his head.” I couldn’t imagine what might be going on in the kid’s mind.

“Yeah, but it was necessary.” Moore shook his head. He might be new here, but I could tell he’d already become part of us.

“Yeah, you’re right.” I rubbed my eyes. “Poor Keith, he can’t catch a break right now.”

“And no,” he read my mind, “nothing new has come in on Lexi. Mike had a meeting with Cole this morning. Something’s going on, but we haven’t been told anything yet.”

“Okay.” I caught sight of Ivy as she came toward the room. She had changed into a red dress with tights, and it made my mind slip for half a second. I might live and breathe the military, but just one glimpse of that woman filled me with need. “Ahh…” I fought to get my head in the game, and Moore smirked.

“My shoes were in your closet,” she said quickly. “I hope it was okay I went in your room.”

“Of course.” I was surprised she even mentioned it. I forgot I’d tucked her shoes in there after we’d showered together. “Are you okay?” I saw something in her face and reached for her hand. She was about to speak, but she had picked up on the vibe in the room and hesitated. I prompted her.

“Um, I couldn’t help but notice…” Her words trailed off and she looked down.

“Notice what?” I was curious as to what was on her mind.

“What’s going on?” she asked quietly, and I could see she had slipped into work mode, so I dropped it and quickly filled her in on what was happening with Brandon.

“Oh, my, that poor boy. Okay.” She headed toward Keith, who had just put down his phone to study the map again. We followed her. As soon as he saw her, his eyes softened and I noticed a look of vulnerability that I’d never seen up to now. “Tell me everything.” She sat down beside him.

“Quinn said he didn’t show up for target practice after lunch, and he’s been missing for,” he looked at his watch, “over three hours now. Three hours and twenty-six minutes, to be exact.”

“Cameras?” I caught his eye.

“Yes, there are, but a strong wind came through this morning and knocked three out, so all we know is he was walking in this direction.” He drew a line with his finger on the map. “Olivia said he’s been checked out even more than usual lately. He’s distanced himself from the other kids.”
