“There he is.” Dad stood and gave me a hug. “I heard you dealt with a little problem?” he mumbled.

“I did.”

“I bet you feel better.”

“Mildly.” I appreciated that my father knew what fed my cravings.

Hardly visible, but always near, our security team kept a close eye on the family. It was important to be seen, but we kept the risk to a minimum. You never knew who lurked in the shadows to take us out. We did, after all, dabble in the darker side of things. When we were home, we had an entourage of about four men around us. When we traveled, that number would double.

“Cameron.” I nodded at the man who did his best to look like someone important by the way he watched the room. His expression made it seem like everyone else was less important. I shook off my distaste and took a seat next to my brother.

“Minnie was lookin’ for ya.” Leo pointed over his shoulder.

“Where?” I craned my neck and saw her talking to Kenna.

Great.

Minnie reached over and touched her cheek, but Kenna shook her head and slapped a smile on her face. I wondered what was said.

“Well, Salazar’s happy. Just look at him at his table.” Cameron huffed as he rubbed a hand through his gray hair. “He’s one friggin’ high-ass maintenance client.”

“When are they not?” Leo replied to Cameron’s comment. “Let Kenna deal with him.”

“I suppose so. If you see her, let her know I’m looking for her.”

“She’s once again avoiding my calls,” he complained. I failed to mention she wasn’t far from us.

“Sure,” Leo assured him and sent a smirk my way.

“Anyway, I never said welcome back, Grim.” He moved to pat my shoulder but caught my glare and thought better of it.

“Thanks.” I hopped up and pulled out Mom’s chair as she approached. Her purse wiggled, and I eyed the little shit inside. He was cute, but pocket-size anything didn’t make sense to me. Mom, however, thought it was hysterical to own a fun-sized version of my two dogs.

“Nice to have you home, son. For good.” She kissed my cheek to solidify her words and slipped into her chair. The pup’s face peeked out of her purse, and I rolled my eyes.

“You look as beautiful as ever, Mom.” I hugged her then sat. Even at her advanced age, she was a woman who drew the eye. She reminded me of that Italian actress, Sophia Loren. Dad’s eyes lit up as he admired her and leaned in for a kiss.

Minnie’s laugh drew my attention, and I saw she and Kenna had their heads together as they looked at a cell phone. I excused myself from the table and headed toward them.

“Girl, those tits of yours would look phenomenal in this two-piece.” Minnie laughed again as she gawked at Kenna’s chest then back at the phone. She looked up at me as I approached.

“Ladies.” I nodded and saw Kenna’s face twist with annoyance.

The feeling’s mutual, sweetheart.

“Grim!” Minnie squealed as I leaned in for a hug. Sometimes she really did sound like Minnie Mouse. “I heard you were back.” She hugged me harder.

“I am.”

“For good this time?”

“Yes, Leo will be taking over for me in Mexico—for a while, at least—then he’ll be back.”

“I have something less painful to do at the moment,” Kenna murmured and kissed Minnie’s cheek. “Order me two.” She winked as she tapped Minnie’s cell phone and left. I found myself curious as to exactly what they’d been looking at.

“I’ll be sad to see Leo go,” Minnie pulled her gaze from Kenna’s retreating backside and looked at me, “but I’m so fucking happy you’re home.” She beamed. “You bring out a fun side in Brick, and I, for one, am dying to see that back.”

“Everything good?” He’d seemed fine to me before the desert ride. He’d been as excited as the rest of us to take down those snakes.
