My two Doberman Pinschers sat at my feet, Leal on my right and Zhen at my left. They were protective, well trained, and never left my side unless instructed to.

“So, you’re telling me that Yen Hong plans to make a move on Salazar while he’s staying at Indulge.” I eyed Darryl, and he nodded. Darryl was one of the trusted few I’d planted around the various hotels in Vegas. If shit went down, Darryl knew about it.

“Yes, sir.” He nodded and handed me a phone with a recording on it. I handed it to Jesse, who stepped away to confirm what Darryl had told us.

Darryl worked the Taro hotel, as a bus boy. He kept his eyes and ears open. He was nothing on the totem pole, merely a blur of color that passed by unseen. Little did they know he was an ex-mercenary and had quite the past in his native Singapore. I’d helped his brother get out of the middle east when he ran into trouble a few years back. I knew he was loyal, and he’d brought me many tidbits of useful information over his years here.

“It’s legit,” Jesse confirmed and handed the phone back to Darryl.

I crossed my ankle over my knee as I thought. “Anything else?” I didn’t need to say any more. Darryl knew even the smallest detail was something.

“Ridder.” Darryl waved and another of my men stepped forward and handed me a file with a photo inside. It was proof that Harris, a tech billionaire, was coming to town. I scanned the details and handed it back.

“Mr. Thomas Harris from London arrives tomorrow night.” Ridder nodded. Another of my trusted spies, Ridder’s official position was a window cleaner at the Venetian. The second son of an infamous drug lord from El Salvador, I’d hired him on Darryl’s recommendation. I never asked what their connection was to each other. It didn’t matter. I handed Jesse the file. “He’s arriving with his typical entourage and some of his chosen staff.” Ridder tilted his head at me, alluding that Harris needed a good time for his male company. “There’s talk he’s unhappy with his treatment, and after doing a little more digging,” he couldn’t hide his smirk, “I’d say it’s time to show Mr. Harris what we can do for him.”

“Excellent.” I’d waited six years for this green light. “Jesse, let’s get the jet on stand-by and make sure we have the yacht fully staffed at Laguna.” If we were doing this, we were doing it right.

“Will do. I’ve got his itinerary, and we can decide when the best time is to make our move.”

“Good.”

“Also, sir,” Ridder spoke up, “there’s a container sitting behind Aria that will need to be taken care of.” Ridder glanced at Jesse. Jesse immediately pulled out his cell phone to arrange for the disposal of whoever had gotten in Ridder’s way. Ridder didn’t have much patience, which was why the Mac had a reputation for staff members going MIA.

“Patrick,” I paused, “Lawson, is there anything you’d like to add?” The two other men at the table were both bellmen for the Wynn and Crockfords, and both were ex-law enforcement.

“All quiet,” Patrick added.

Nothing is ever quiet in Vegas.

“Which means something’s coming.” Lawson read my mind.

I looked at my watch and saw it was time to head back up. I waved and dismissed my men while Jesse finished up a phone call.

“Grim,” Jesse held up a finger, “someone wants to see you.”

“Oh?” I raised an eyebrow and shifted my gaze from him to the door that had just opened. A hard looking Vanilla Ice gangster wannabe came in with a hooker I recognized. He had her arm in a tight hold. She worked a street just off the Strip, but the guy was new to me. I knew a lot of pimps, but nothing about him was familiar.

“Why are you here? Make it fast and don’t waste my time.” I ran my fingers over Leal’s head and up his ears. He held his position, but I felt the tenseness in his lean body.

“Name’s Big Cat.” The guy scrunched up his nose and tried to act tough. I threw Jesse a humorous smirk. “My bitch Glory here has something to tell you.”

“Hi, Grim.” Glory sniffed and stood a little straighter then pushed her boobs in my direction. “Thought you might want to know that people are talking.”

“Elaborate.” I waited, but she looked at me, confused. “Explain what you mean.”

“Tell him.” Big Cat shook her, and she struggled to balance on her ridiculously high heels.

“It’s about your hotel. People are saying someone’s paying off the workers, so they don’t work for you.”

This wasn’t new information, but the fact that it was now knowledge among the locals concerned me.

“And just who are these people you heard this from?”

“Well, I’ve heard whisperin’, you know from here and there, mostly from my girls.” I eyed her hard, and she hurried on.

“Okay, so, biggest thing is Cherry Boom, at Clipper’s Strip Joint, she told Benny Bunny who told me that Cherry Boom was doin’ a lap dance for some big tipper.” My head hurt just trying to follow. “Anyways, he was on the phone talkin’ about you and how it was time to make a big move. Starting with fuckin’ up your grand opening.”

I saw red and felt my blood boil. Zhen turned his head and looked up at me. I saw the tremble that went through his body as he begged to be ordered to take them out. Both dogs stood, ready to pounce if I so much as whispered the right word.
