“Who’s they?” I gave her a pointed look. I didn’t do this for anyone but me.

“I just meant later, if you change your mind.”

“Which you should,” Tess chimed in. “You’re in your prime.”

I peeled off my dress and took the shirt from Tess. I noticed she glanced at Minnie. I pretended not to realize that they could tell I was off, as she gathered my clothes to take to Minnie’s office. The girls started their shift soon, and I wanted to keep what I did here private.

“You okay, honey?” Minnie handed me a pair of red heels.

“Yeah.”

“Was it the other night at my club when you–-”

“No.” I cut her off. I didn’t want that thought in my mind.

“Was it dinner with Sonny?

“No.” I slipped my feet into the shoes. She studied me for a moment.

“What did Grim do?”

“It’s what Grim’s going to do.” I sighed.

“Oh, shit,” Tess hissed. She knew Grim was as dark as Trigger when you disobeyed. “What’d you do?”

“That’s the problem. I mean, I wanted to listen to what he wanted, but then I had a job to do and…” I stopped as I heard my cue.

“Whatever it is can wait.” Tess turned me around and studied my outfit. “Go blow off some steam in there. Come out, drink some vodka, dance, and things can only get better.”

“That’s your answer for everything.” I laughed but she was right. I needed this.

I stepped through the door and into the box when the orange light came on. Minnie reserved this private viewing room called Wet and Wild for me when I needed it. It resembled a cage, and no one could enter without the right key card. Perks of being friends with the owner.

The music started, and I shook my head free of all thought and let my body sway to the beat. A slowed down instrumental version of Summertime by Sam Cooke flowed through the speakers as the rain started. It was a steady light spray and felt wonderful. Within a minute, I was soaked. As I spun on the pole, drops sprayed from me and spattered over part of the glass ledge which created quite the effect in the lights all around me.

I fell to my knees, slid to my stomach, and with a roll, I turned on my back and extended my legs in the air. I pressed my legs against the wall and tightened my abs then did a sexy roll back onto my stomach. As I did, I flung my wet hair and was back on my knees again. I reached above my head took the pole in my hand and slid straight up then spun around with an arch in my back.

I didn’t dance like this for anyone but me. I wasn’t on display for my clients, I wasn’t looking to make money, nor was it a cry for help. No, this dance was about me feeling confident about myself. It was a place where I could let my body go completely without any inhibitions or restraints. I could empty my mind of everything and just be alone. Being sexy didn’t always have to be for someone else, it could be just for yourself.

When the song ended, I let a lazy smile slip across my lips as I stepped from the box. I felt so much better as I got into the small shower. I refused to let any thoughts mess up this good feeling as I dried off then twisted my wet hair into a messy bun.

I slid my midnight blue fringed dress back on. I loved this dress. The fabric was a see-through material with fringes artfully arranged to cover the necessary areas in a unique pattern while the rest of me was on display. It was my feel-good dress because I knew the girls wouldn’t always stand at attention like they did now. My twenties would be their best years, and I was going to let them live their best life. I’d had a shitty day, but now that I’d danced and was in my lucky dress, my girls and I were ready for a great night.

“Watch out!” one of the newer girls Minnie had hired barked at me as she rushed by. I stepped back and eyed the room at the end of the hall as someone left and let the door slam loudly behind them. A flashback flickered momentarily in my head.

“What are you doing here?” He stared at me as I came into the room.

“Ready?” Jack, the security guard for the floor, pulled me back to the present. He waited to escort me out to the club.

“Yeah.” I shook off the sudden tension of the flashback. I wouldn’t let it ruin my night.

The club was packed. When I got upstairs, I was delighted to spot Dale double-fisting glasses of Very Sexy Martinis. My all-time favorite drink. They were pink, served in a long-stemmed glass, garnished with a raspberry and a leaf of mint.

“Minnie called and told me you needed some cheerin’ up.” He winked and handed me a glass.

“Where are Minnie and Tess?” I couldn’t see the girls up on the platform, as their table was raised up for protection. It was a place for the girls who worked here to party safely. No clients or guests could get too close.

Horseshoe seating with the bar in the center gave the clubbers complete three-sixty-degree access to drinks. It was specifically designed with shelves of booze in a room inside with everything they needed to keep the bar running smoothly. It was a neat design and made the club feel large yet sectioned off. It was so much nicer than one giant mosh pit.
