“Yeah, I think he would,” he seemed to think, “but maybe not tonight. You got him all wound up now.” He smirked to show he knew it wasn’t just his boss that was wound up. I hated how even having Grim in the same room turned me on, but also set my temper on fire.

“Why’s Jesse hovering over you?” Minnie asked as she danced close to me.

“Grim’s in a mood about what happened, and this is his punishment.”

“His punishment is to keep guys away?” She gave me a wry look. “Why don’t you two screw, already? I heard he’s insane in bed. Just like you.” She grinned. I took a casual sip of Grim’s drink and tried to avoid eye contact, which, of course, she caught immediately. “You little twat, you’ve been holding out on me!”

“It was nothing.”

“No, it was something.” She grabbed my hand and pulled me off the busy dance floor. “Spill it.”

Fine. “He wanted to prove a point after the dinner about Sonny, and I ended up on all fours, in his limo, with him over me.” I wiggled my fingers.

“And?” Her grin spread, and her eyes widened with excitement.

“So, the rumors are true.”

“I knew it! His darkness spills over into his sex life. So?”

“So?” I was confused.

“So, are you guys gonna keep playing?”

“No! It was a moment of weakness.”

“A moment of greatness, you mean.”

“Minnie,” I pointed at her with the glass in my hand, “he drives me insane. He tries to bark orders at me, tells me who I can and can’t book as clients even after his father gave me explicit instructions. He’s?—”

“He’s ruthless in business, as well as in bed, and it’s what makes him so great.” She looked delighted. “I mean, come on, Kenna. The sexual tension positively drips from the two of you.”

“Sexual or not…” someone caught my eye, and I went still. The lights bounced off a man’s shiny, bald head, and as he turned, I caught his big, bushy mustache.

“What?” Minnie caught my mood swing, and I reached out for her hand. “Kenna, what?”

“That’s his guys.”

“What guys?” She started to look around, but I stopped her.

“Minnie, I-I need to go.”

“No, babe, let me get Brick.”

“What if they…” I couldn’t finish my sentence. Shit. Shit. Shit. I stepped back from her, suddenly overwhelmed by the music.

“Kenna, wait!” Minnie shouted after me, but I couldn’t risk it. I had to get away.

I bolted off in the other direction as fast as I could. I pushed my way through the people and didn’t stop until I had the door in sight. I cringed at the men who tried to get my attention as I went, hands reaching out to touch my body as I hurried through the pulsing crowd. I pushed them away, as I felt the panic rise. My heart pounded in my chest as faces blurred around me.

A cold prickle raced up my spine as I reached the door. I felt like they were right behind me. Maybe they knew my secret and had come here to find me. I knew there had been more than one of them there that night, though only he was in the room alone. I knew a couple of his men saw me leave.

I swung the door open and flew through it in my panic and ran straight into Grim. His eyes narrowed in on me as he exhaled the smoke from his joint. I turned around and faced the door and pressed my hands against it, terrified, they’d spotted me.

“Who do I have to kill this time?” His tone sent a shiver through me.

“No one.” I needed to run. “I just need to get out of here.”

Grim didn’t waste a beat; he ushered me toward his blacked-out Bentley. His driver opened the door, and I dove inside.
