“I was your welcome home gift.” He owl-blinked at what he’d just said. “Okay, well, that came out all wrong.” He rubbed his face, and I pulled him in for a hug.

“It’s been too long, little brother.”

“It has.” Leo grinned and slapped my back, and we both took a moment to rejoice being together again. “Grim, we really need to talk before we land.”

“We do.” I turned to Jesse. “I need you to preoccupy Malibu.”

“Yeah, yeah.” He knew better than to push back again.

We both sat in the plush ivory seats. I took a moment to enjoy the beauty of the plane. The stitching in the seats matched the mahogany table between us. God, I loved my life.

“Did you and Trigger fuck up?” Leo pointed to my battered knuckles, and I gave him my full attention.

“Just some asshole with a death wish,” I huffed as I took the single malt from the flight attendant. “Some Stripe Backs caused shit at Minnie’s club. Ended up with two battered girls.” He gave me a look of shock. “Yeah, black eyes and one with a broken jaw. They stole some of my coke, but we caught them on their way back to LA.”

“Oh, shit.” He shook his head in disbelief. He knew I looked out for Minnie. She did the same for me, so this hit close to home. “How much coke did they get?”

“Not much, but that wasn’t the real reason they were there. Sounds like some girl caused trouble, and they were really looking for her. Whatever the hell it was, we’ll find out soon enough.”

“And now you and Trigger have dealt with them. Will this blow back on you?”

“I doubt it.” I shrugged. I knew Leo had been stressed enough the last while, and I didn’t want to add to it. “If it does, we’ll shut it down pretty quick.”

“Good.” He rubbed his lips then leaned down and ran a hand through his mop of hair. He seemed ready to change the topic. He started to speak, but her voice stopped him.

“Grim?” Jenelle pushed by Jesse, who threw up his hands behind her. She looked impatient.

Fuck.

“Can’t family time be over?” Jenelle stuck her lip out like a child, and I rolled my eyes. “It’s Nellie’s turn.” Leo bared his teeth at her nickname for herself.

“Go back to the room, Jenelle. I’m almost finished.”

“Fine.” She turned and made a motion for Jesse to move. “This plane’s much too crowded.”

“Remember that the next time you fly with us,” Jesse grunted, and I cracked my knuckles.

“Give me this, then we’ll talk.” I shrugged at Leo as I propelled her toward the bedroom. I knew I needed time to talk with my brother, but I needed sex more.

Jenelle liked sex to be romantic. Lots of give and take shit. I didn’t do well with that.

“Time to savor me.” She put a pink coated fingertip to her lips then opened the first few buttons on her low-cut blouse. I knew she wanted me to undo the rest of the buttons and go slow. I tossed her on the bed and made an effort to give her what she wanted. A short time later, I got some relief, but my blood still pounded in my head. I tried to tamp down the flair of anger at how I had to hold myself back.

I reached for her, incredibly pent-up, and tried to get my head back in the game. It didn’t help that she rolled on her stomach and began to tell me about her girls’ weekend.

Christ, it was how I imagined married sex would be. I looked down at her and wanted to scream. She yawned sleepily, and I wanted to put my hands around her throat. This had been one big fucking mistake.

“Fuck.” I quickly changed and left the room to join the others.

“You look…” I glared at Jesse, who shut his mouth.

“She’s fuckin’ asleep.” I wasn’t in the mood, and Jesse looked away.

“Deborah called.” Leo changed the topic, and Jesse got up and took a seat a bit away from us, grumbling something about e-mails. Good. I wanted more time with my brother before we landed.

“Oh?” Deborah was my eyes and ears for any property that came up for sale on the strip. There was one I particularly wanted, and she knew I’d do whatever was necessary to get it. She was also someone who had her ear to the ground and would often pass along information she thought I might need to be aware of. Deborah was extremely important to my business.

“She wanted you to know she’s coming to Vegas in the next few weeks. She’ll confirm the dates shortly.”
