“I don’t think that’s possible, Kenna.”

“Why?” It was so terrifying to even think about, I wanted to shed a layer of skin.

“Because whoever the hell that was at the club last night, that scared you enough to run, had some questions for me.”

“What-what did you say to them?” The walls around us tilted.

“What I had to,” her gaze narrowed in on me, “but babe, I don’t think this is going to go away that easily.”

“Well, it has to.” I smiled when Brick approached. He squinted at me like he could read our body language but was smart enough to stand back and give us some space.

“Hey,” she took my hand, “you know I’m always here for you. You usually tell me everything. We don’t have secrets, so why can’t you tell me this one?”

“Because.” It slipped from my mouth as I broke with a quiet sob. “It’s bad, Minnie.”

“Jesus.” She let out a long breath, and we both pulled it together. “Would it help if I got Trigger to talk?—”

“No,” I cut her off, “no one, Minnie. It’s bad enough I got you involved.”

“Min?” Brick took a step toward us, and I looked away, feeling raw.

“It’s all good. I’ll meet you at the pool.” She smiled at him, and he studied us for a moment with a doubtful expression, then left.

“Great, now I’m on Brick’s radar.” I used the back of my hand to dry a tear that slipped out.

“I’ll just mention your vagina and he’ll forget everything he saw.” She grinned and reached out to play with the twist of hair on my shoulder. “I’m letting this go for now,” she gave me a pointed look, “but if anything else happens, and I mean anything, you need to spill it.”

“Yeah.” I agreed. “You can’t even tell Brick about this, Min. I’m serious.”

“Tits and ass until under the grass.” She smiled, and I knew she’d always have my back. “Now,” she wrapped an arm around me and started to walk with me, “I heard Grim had some company over last night and his brother let it spill over into your meeting this morning.”

“Knox was day drinking again.” I rolled my eyes.

“Mhm,” she pressed her lips together, “did that bother your little bean?” She pointed to my crotch. “Because if I was as wound as you’ve been lately, and Mr. Tall Dark and Angry was playing on me with his fingers, I might be inclined to feel a little jelly.”

“You’re right I am jealous.” I turned to look at her. “Jealous that he’s getting some and I’m not.” Her face fell a little, like it wasn’t the reaction she’d wanted. “Minnie, we live in Sin City, where zillions of penises are walkin’ around looking for their next snack. I happen to have a very lovely snack box that’s just waiting to be eaten. I even come with toys.” I huffed, and she laughed.

“I think I may have just the answer for you.” She pulled her phone from her purse and started to tap the screen. I was glad we were off the earlier topic. I wanted to bury it deep and move on. I needed to get my head on straight.

“Well, there you are, Kenna. You look as great as ever.” Yen Hong joined us. He looked stylish in his navy blue and white striped button-down, salmon-colored short shorts, and a pair of Brunello Cucinelli white sneakers. Not a look I particularly found attractive, but I also wasn’t his type. “Shall we?”

“Wait, I need to know one thing.” Minnie had her hands on her hips. “How did you get out of that elevator?” A slow, lazy grin spread across my lips, and I knew my eyes twinkled with mischief.

“I got my hands on one of the black and golds.” She knew I meant an exclusive card, and I could see she wanted to ask how I’d gotten it, but she wouldn’t risk it in front of a client.

“I’ve taught you so well.” She belly-laughed.

“Indeed.” I nodded in lieu of a bow. “I’ll text you later.” Yen looked curious but was too polite to ask. Minnie waved me off, and I followed Yen through the hotel to one of our best sushi restaurants. Of course, we skipped the line and were escorted to one of the best seats in the house. It looked out over a Zen Garden in keeping with the theme of total relaxation. It told the guests to relax and indulge then go back out and gamble. It was the perfect place to eat before a relaxing visit to the pool.

Yen pulled out my chair, and I thanked him as I draped my napkin over my lap.

He smiled at me from across the table, and I wondered what he was thinking.

“Did you get my notes on my friends?”

“Of course.” I smiled.

“Memorized who does what?”
