I love him so damn much. The emotion blooms and pulses in my chest until I think it might burst wide open.

I’m not sure what the Cougars are gonna do with Theo, but I’m just gonna stay in Liam’s arms for a little bit longer, drawing on his strength and reveling in what feels like a triumph.

Despite my stinging hands and aching face, I triumphed.

Theo didn’t get the best of me, and I fought him off like a boss bitch.

Badass Rachel Beauford. That’s what Mick’s gonna call me. And I could get used to it.

The door swings back open, and Casey returns with an update. “Asher’s calling the cops. Your fuckwit ex punched Coach Renard too.”

“What?” I jerk back in surprise. “Why… why’s he calling the cops?”

Casey’s forehead bunches with a frown. “Because he attacked you and one of our assistant coaches, and this time he’s not going to get away with it.”

I shrink against Liam, my heart pounding as I think about Theo’s intimidating father and how he’s going to react. It’ll be my word against his son’s. And I know we’re in a different state and everything, but cops support cops, right? There’s probably some kind of code or something. What if Theo spins some lie, accusing me of attacking him first?

“I don’t want the police involved,” I murmur.

“Ray.” Liam always says my name with such tenderness. “It’s gonna be okay.”

“But it’s my word against his.”

“Actually, there are cameras all over the arena.” Casey twirls his finger in the air. “None in here, of course, but I’m pretty sure wherever he attacked you will be caught on film. Where’d it all go down?”

“On the ice.”

Two sets of eyebrows rise while I look down at my wet jeans and jacket. “I don’t know how he got into the arena, but I was walking past that little door that you go through to get onto the rink. Maybe it wasn’t shut properly or something, but when he lunged at me, I fell through it.”

Liam tenses, and I check his face.

Now it’s my turn to say, “It’s okay.”

“I just hate the fact that he hurt you again.”

My lips twitch. “I got a few hits in this time.”

“And now I have to see that video.” Casey rushes to his locker, throwing on his jeans and a shirt. “Let’s go, let’s go!”

Liam pulls a pair of sweats on, going commando and not even bothering with a shirt before following Casey down to the security room.

Asher’s already down there, on the phone with the police while sitting at the monitor next to a man and woman who I don’t recognize. They glance over their shoulders at me, and I spot a security emblem on the man’s shirt.

“Yeah, okay. Thanks.” Asher places his phone down and turns toward us. “The cops are on their way.”

“Where’s Theo?” I cross my arms, wishing my voice didn’t shake every time I said his name.

“He’s currently face down on the floor in the main entrance with Ethan sitting on his back and Coach Bergenon going off on him.”

Liam grins. His smile is broad and beautiful before his expression turns serious and he points at the screen. “You know how to work this thing?”

“Do I know how to work it?” Asher rolls his eyes. “Of course I fucking do, man.”

Spinning back around to face the screen, he goes to show us just how amazing he is, but his hand is slapped away by the woman beside him. She gives him a scowl and mutters something about him not touching her equipment.

“Come on, Pats. Play nice.” Asher winks at her.

She fights a grin, shaking her head and rewinding the footage for us.
