Not only did Mikayla’s dad arrange his father-in-law’s private jet to come and collect us, but we then drove to the five-star oasis in a stretch limo, clinking glasses of bubbling cider together as we celebrated how freaking awesome this all is.

Of course, Mama was sad I wouldn’t make it home for Christmas, but when I told her why, she was genuinely happy for me. Sofia hit the roof, hissing and whining about how it wasn’t fair that she couldn’t go. Yes, she’s a junior in high school who still knows how to act like a six-year-old. Thankfully, Jack came to the rescue and invited my mother, sisters, and Maria’s boyfriend around for Christmas dinner, so I can relax knowing that someone’s going to treat them right and look after them.

Meanwhile, I can soak up some California sunshine with my best friend and these gorgeous ladies.

Staring out the window, I drink in the sun-soaked scenery, already missing the snow. I’m used to white Christmases. This is going to be a new experience.

Rachel lets out a happy sigh beside me. She’s been great this week. More smiley and relaxed. I’ve kept making sure she gets home safe each night, and we’ve made out a couple more times around the side of the house, or in her car, before the icy cold has forced us inside.

I like kissing her.

Her lips are soft and sweet. I like the little moans of approval she gives me, and I love the way her body fits against mine. I can wrap my arms all the way around her.

I want to fall asleep beside her again, but she hasn’t invited me up to my room yet. I don’t want to be the creep who pushes that on her, so I’m trying to be patient, but man, I want her. I want her so badly.

Let’s just say Asher’s not the only one to fulfill a certain need on that couch in his man cave. And every time I do, I’m picturing Rachel’s soft lips, feeling them brush over every inch of my skin. I’m hearing her breathy pants as I bury myself inside her and make her come.

“Oh my gosh, look!” Rachel’s hand lands on my thigh, and I get a quick glimpse of her excited face before following the direction of her finger to look at the looming gates ahead of us.

“That’s the resort!” Mick clambers out of her seat to push her face next to Rachel’s so they can drink it in together.

It looks amazing. That’s a rich man’s paradise right there.

Luna Luxury Resort is embossed in gold letters above the grand entrance. As soon as the mammoth wooden gates open, we drive through the stone archway and start drinking in the lush golf course. I’ve never seen such vibrant green grass in my life.

The driveway must be at least a couple miles long as we wind our way through palm trees and fountains until a stone mansion appears as if formed from the earth’s crust. It juts out from the side of a large hill—a masterpiece of apricot and creamy white stones.

The main building is four or five stories of impressive architecture, and shooting off from that in various directions are pathways that lead to individual villas.

“I feel like a celebrity,” Rachel murmurs, her laughter a little giddy when she shares a cute smile with Mick. They let out this squeal together, which I’m sure is not human, and I bulge my eyes at Ethan, who’s cringing behind his girlfriend’s back.

The limo pulls to a stop outside the grand entrance, and a man in a tailored suit hurries down the wide steps to greet us. His smile is broad, and I can tell before he even opens the door that this must be Mikayla’s father.

“Dad!” She jumps into his arms, sharing a tight hug.

Rachel watches on with misty eyes, then shares a meaningful look with Ethan. “You did that,” she whispers, reaching out to squeeze his forearm. “Thank you.”

He looks about ready to cry for a second but manages to just blink and nod. And I watch Rachel slip out of the car with a look of awe. Because that’s what I’m in.

She has the most amazing way of making people feel seen and heard and cared for.

And my heart is tumbling over itself as I watch her give Mr. Hyde a kind smile.

“Ray-Ray.” He holds her hands wide and takes her in. “You are stunning.”

She blushes and dips her chin.

“I know, right?” Mick points her thumb at her. “She’s become quite the hottie.”

Mr. Hyde laughs and kisses her cheek before stepping forward with an outstretched hand to greet Ethan, then introduce himself to me.

He’s a nice man—confident and friendly. I instantly like him, which makes it easy to follow him through the entrance and listen to his instructions on where we can go and what we can use and do while we’re here.

“Everything’s on the house.” He hands us four cards. “Those will give you access to your suite. I’ve put you all in together. I hope that’s okay.”

“Totally fine.” Mick waves a hand through the air. “Just being here is amazing.”

He grins and pulls her into a sideways hug. “Whatever activities you want to do, just mention your suite number. Same for any food and drinks. The resort has three restaurants. The breakfast buffet opens at seven and runs until ten thirty. If it’s okay with you guys, Emilia and I would love to have dinner together tonight, and then we have a special lunch celebration planned for Christmas Day tomorrow. Does that sound okay?”
