“Time to hustle,” Theodosia said. She put a hand on Bill Glass’s shoulder, spun him around, and said, “Appreciate the papers, and thanks for stopping by. See you later, okay?” Ten seconds later, Glass was out the door and Theodosia was breathing a huge sigh of relief.
“Do you think Glass knew we were fibbing?” Drayton asked.
“Who cares? At least he’s gone.”
“You’ve become very skilled at ousting unwelcome guests.”
“Do you think I offend them?” Theodosia asked.
“Actually,” Drayton said, “you charm them.”

When Riley called Theodosia’s cell phone a few minutes later, she couldn’t help herself. She had to ask.
“Is Craig Cole really your leading suspect?”
“Who’s the idiot spreading that rumor?” Riley asked.
“Bill Glass.”
Riley snorted. “That lousy hack.”
“So Cole isn’t under suspicion anymore?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“So he is? Is Ted Juniper still in the running as well?”
“Theodosia. Sweetheart. Leave it alone, okay?”
“I’m just…curious.”
“No, you’re prying. And, just for the record, I’m not working the Josh Morro case. I’m on something else.”
“A murder?”
“No. And that’s all I’m going to say, okay?”
“Okay.”
“The reason I called is to thank you for the fabulous dinner last night,” Riley said. “And to apologize for having to bounce out of there so early. I guarantee it won’t happen again.”
“You promise?”
“Cross my heart and pinky-swear,” Riley said.
“Okay, apology accepted,” Theodosia said as the tea shop line suddenly rang and Drayton answered it. Then he waggled the phone at Theodosia and mouthed, “Beth Ann.”
“Gotta go,” Theodosia said. “Talk to you later.” She grabbed the other phone and said, “What’s up, Beth Ann?”
“I just got word that today’s shoot will be running late. Joe Adler wants to keep filming for another couple of hours so he can get this one scene finished and in the can. Anyway, they’re asking for more food.” Beth Ann paused and took a breath. “Can we do that?”
“Tell them yes. And I’ll figure something out, okay?”
“Got it.”
Theodosia looked at her watch. “I should be there in an hour or so.”
