“You got it.” Rebel refills my glass. “Do we know how Tobias is?”

“The doctors have him in a coma. We won’t know anything until he wakes up.” I lift the glass. “If he wakes up.”

Rebel jerks his head to the side and steps back from me in surprise. “So he’s not out of the woods?”

“Not even close. His mother is at the hospital.”

“He doesn’t talk about her much. Kinda felt like she wasn’t really part of his life.”

“Well, she is now.” I swirl the whiskey in the glass. “She and I were a thing once.”

“Are you Tobias’ dad?”

Laughing, I shake my head and sip the drink. “No. She’d already had Tobias by then. Didn’t even know she was his mother. Neither of them talked about the other.”

“Or you never asked,” states Rebel as he moves to serve another member of the MC.

His comment hits a little too close to home. Maybe Rebel is right? I loved Lore, but I didn’t really know her, or, more importantly, I only knew the Lore she wanted me to see. The woman I knew wasn’t mother material. Sure, we had fun, but I couldn’t imagine her being at home cooking and cleaning for a kid.

“Dirt, what brings you out?”

Turning, it’s Jonas, the VP of our chapter.

“Can’t sleep.”

“Dane said you’ve got woman problems.”

Putting the glass to my lips, I drink the rest of the whiskey and say, “Had. It was a long time ago. Haven’t seen Lore in ten years.”

Jonas frowns. “Lore? I was talking about Destiny and the girls from The Cherry. Who’s Lore?”

Sighing, I give him a tight smile. “She’s Tobias’ mother.”

Rebel sidles up to us and says, “They used to be a thing.”

Growling at Rebel, I say, “Who the fuck asked you?”

Rebel grins at my anger. “Jesus, Dirt, no need to be so fucking prickly. I didn’t know it wasn’t common knowledge.”

“Well, considering I only just told you, maybe you should have.”

Rebel’s eyebrows shoot up, he winks at Jonas, and moves away from us.

“He’s a fucking gossiper.”

Jonas sits on a bar stool. “Not defending Reb, but you told him, and you know he can’t keep his mouth shut.”

“I’m too old for this shit.”

Jonas clasps his hands together and puts his elbows on the bartop. “Bullshit. Do you want to talk about Lore?”

“No.” I look at him, and he raises his eyebrows. “How about, fuck no?”

“Fair enough.” He looks at my empty glass. “How much have you had to drink?”

“Not enough.”

“Give me your keys.” Jonas holds out his hand.
