Dane looks at Sal. “Get it done fast, Sal.”

“We’re working on it,” Sal replies.

“Okay, we’re done here.” Dane strides from the room as do Sal and Jonas, leaving me alone with King.

“He’s talking about a war with one of the biggest organizations operating in Vegas,” King says, his voice low.

“Yeah. But they’ve left us no choice.”

“You’re down with this?”

I stand. My hands are still in fists, my nails digging into my palms. “No matter what, I stand next to Dane. My patch demands that loyalty, but more importantly, so does my soul.”

Walking from the room, I don’t give King a backward glance, and I keep going until I get to my bike. I cast a glance around the compound I’ve called home for more years than I care to count and wonder what will become of it and us.

Chapter Fifteen

DANE

Dirt strides from the clubhouse, and Sal nudges me to follow him outside. We’ve both got eyes on Dirt and watch as he takes a look around, shakes his head, and roars out of the compound.

“His head isn’t in the game.”

Sal nods. “I’ve never seen him lose his composure like that.”

“I have, but it’s been a long time.” Shaking my head, I lock eyes with Sal. “Lore can push his buttons like no one ever has or will.”

“Not even you?”

“Dirt is loyal, and I know he’d take a bullet for me, but if he had to choose between me and Lore? I think he’d choose Lore.”

“You can’t be serious?”

Raising my eyebrows, I nod. “Ten years ago, they nearly destroyed each other. This time is different. They’re older, wiser, and are both searching for the same thing.”

“And what’s that?”

I laugh. “Each other.”

“Dane!” yells Jonas.

“Yeah?” I yell back without turning around.

“Phone call.”

“Be there in a sec.” Turning, I say to Sal, “The women and our kids need a safe place. Suggestions?”

He nods. “Yes. They all go back with Dave and Luther to Hawaii, along with the band. No one will think anything of it.”

“Group vacation?”

“Yes. The only extra person will be Tony.”

“I thought Tony stuck with you?” I ask.

“Tony goes where I tell him, and he knows if something were to happen to my family, especially Emily, well, I’d burn the world down. No one would be safe.”

Sal smiles, and I’m reminded of how cold and calculating he can be. After all, he didn’t become a captain in the Abruzzi Crime Family without killing, torturing, or bribing anyone he needed.
