One of them turned to me. “Piss yourself, whore.” He started to laugh, and the other guys laughed with him. I was going to kill him first.

“I’m on my period,” I lied. “You wouldn’t want my blood all over the floor, would you?” Speaking of periods, I was certain I was late, but I couldn’t think of that right now. “You don’t need to untie me, just take me to the bathroom, goddammit!”

“You’re so fucking noisy,” one of them inclined and finally started towards me. “I can’t bear to hear your whiny little voice, it’s annoying.” He untied the rope binding my body to the chair, leaving only the ones on my hands.

I did a quick mental calculation. My body was throbbing with pain and I was weak but I guessed that I could pull a fast one on them. All three of them were holding guns, but I needed just one to take them out.

The guy untied me and dragged me up from the chair. I hit his stomach with my elbow, put my tied hands around his neck, and moved to the back. The other guys opened fire and I used him as a human shield to protect myself from the bullets.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. There was nothing here to hide behind and a human body could only do so much at keeping the bullets away. I grabbed his gun from his shoulder and started firing back. Two down, one more to go.

The firing continued till the last two guys were down. I rummaged through their clothes, took a loaded .45 and a dagger, and stormed out. I followed a glint of light outside. There were a lot more of them around a campfire, ten at the very least, and they were all armed. I had no chance of taking them down myself. My best bet was sneaking around them, but I’d still be taken down.

I returned to one of the dead guys inside, took their phones, and dialed Mikhail’s number. “Mikhail,” I whispered into the phone immediately after he answered.

“Adrienne?” He sounded anxious, as if he’d been waiting to hear from us. He and the rest of Andrei’s guys must’ve been looking for us.

“Yes, it’s me.”

“Where are you?” he asked. “Where’s Andrei?”

“I don’t know where Andrei is right now, but I’ll find him. I’ll send you a location.”

“No, Adrienne. Stay put where you are, and we’ll come get you.”

A sharp pain made my shoulder pulsate. I’d been hit and I had no idea. It wouldn’t be long before I lost more blood and passed out. I quickly sent the address to Mikhail while still on the phone. “I have to find Andrei. It’s Carlos and he seemed like a real psycho; he may hurt him.”

“Adrienne no…”

Mikhail’s protest was cut short when someone pressed cold metal to my temple. “Put the phone down or I’ll blow your fucking brains out.”

Chapter 22 - Andrei

“Where is Adrienne?”

Carlos laughed, his golden teeth glittering. After the car crash—which the son of a bitch planned, by the way—some of his men attacked us.

Adrienne was passed out and I was still in pain from hitting my head and greatly outnumbered. He'd put a gun to Adrienne’s head and threatened to kill her if I tried to resist. I had no choice but to give up and go along with him.

I’d felt so helpless watching them take Adrienne and allowing this idiot to handcuff me to this pole in his office. I was certain hundreds of girls had grinded their bare asses on it for his sick entertainment.

“Where the hell is Adrienne?”

“Easy, mi amigo,” he said sardonically. “We don’t want your handsome face all wrinkled now, do we?” He trailed his finger on my face and I decided that would be the first part of him I’d separate from his body once I got out of here. If I got out of here.

Last night, we’d killed the heads of most of the crime families in New York, not just the Mexicans, so it would take a while before Mikhail and the boys figured out where we were and, knowing this lunatic, there was no way he would let me get out of here alive or keep me long enough to survive this shit.

But I couldn’t bear the thought that Adrienne would be caught up in all of this.

“The Italian bitch is a feisty one, I give her that,” he announced proudly. “I’d like to see how she’d squirm and try to fight me off while I touch her.”

Hot, boiling blood rushed through my veins and I saw red. Crimson bloody red. “I don’t care if I die here, but you won’t survive it if you touch a hair on her body.”

Carlos’s eyes widened, then he furrowed his face in a maniac way. “Do you both share a soul?” He bit his finger. “I mean, she said the same thing to me. Isn’t that funny.”

“It won’t be funny when I bury my bullet in your head.”

Carlos waved my threat off dramatically. “It would. I’d like to see which of you gets to me first.”
