My fingers sought the puncture marks where my neck met my shoulder, probing the tender spots. God, the pleasure when his teeth sank into my flesh.

I stood, wincing at the soreness between my legs. Grabbing a robe from the hook on the back of the door, I wrapped it around me, inhaling Magnus’s scent of pine and leather.

When I entered the living area, Magnus was sitting at the dining table, a laptop open in front of him. He stood when he saw me, moving toward me and tugging me into his arms. Then his lips were on mine, his tongue spearing inside as he ravished my mouth. I melted into him with a moan, sliding my hands into his hair and holding him to me as he kissed me like a man starving for my touch, my taste.

We were both breathless when he finally pulled away.

“What are you doing?” I asked breathlessly.

His expression darkened, and he looked grim. Lacing our hands, he tugged me toward the couch. “Come and sit. There’s something I need to tell you.”

My heart pounded. “What is it? Has something happened? The blackmailer?—”

Magnus places a finger over my lips as we sit. Then his hand moves to my neck, his fingers smoothing gently over the puncture marks of his bite. “When I bit you, we sealed our bond.”

I nodded. “Yes, I know. I wanted it. I don’t regret it.”

His smile was soft. “Neither do I, sweetheart. I’ve never felt so close to anyone. You’re my world now.”

“I feel the same,” I murmured, cupping his cheek.

He turned his face to kiss my palm. “When I bit you, I sensed something… extraordinary. Something I never expected.”

My brow furrowed with curiosity and a hint of apprehension. "What is it, Magnus? You're scaring me."

Magnus took a deep breath as if steeling himself for what was to come. "You're not entirely human, Mila. You're a shifter too."

My eyes widened in disbelief, my heart battering my ribs. "What? That's impossible! I'm just a regular woman. I’m not a bear shifter."

Magnus took my hands in his, his gaze steady and unwavering. “No, you’re not. You’re a wolf shifter. I know it sounds insane, but it's true. Think about it. Have you felt a connection to the wilderness, to the call of the moon? You've always been drawn to it, haven't you?"

My mind raced as I recalled the moments of inexplicable longing I’d experienced throughout her life, the inexplicable pull of the wild that had always resonated deep within her soul.

"I... I guess so," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.

Magnus nodded, his expression softening with understanding. "It's in your blood, Mila. One or both of your parents were shifters, and that legacy lives on within you."

My head swam with a whirlwind of emotions—disbelief, confusion, and beneath them, a strange sense of exhilaration. I looked up at Magnus, searching his eyes for any sign of deception, but I only found sincerity. He wouldn’t lie to me.

"I can’t believe this is happening," I said, my voice trembling slightly.

“You deserve to know the truth about who you are.”

My body shook as I stared at him blankly. This was too much. My brain was overloaded.

Magnus smoothed circles over the small of my back, spreading warmth and calming me. “I hate that you didn’t know. I hate that I introduced you to our world like this, but you’re not alone. I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere. We’ll figure it out. I’ll help you navigate this.”

“Why didn’t I know this?” I asked through numb lips. “Shouldn’t I have shifted by now?”

“That’s why I didn’t sense it sooner. Shifters can usually detect others of their kind, but I think your ability to shift and your natural scent was suppressed because you weren’t raised among your kind. But the second I tasted your blood, I knew.”

“Maybe that’s why my parents abandoned me,” I whispered.

“Females shifters have a tough time in wolf packs. They hold lower ranks and positions of power than their male counterparts. Maybe your parents were trying to protect you from that world.”

I frowned, considering his words. Had they meant to protect me? Would pack life have been worse than abandoning me to the human world?

Magnus pulled me in for a hug. “We need to handle your blackmail problem first. I have my brothers Thor and Marcus looking into it.”
