“You didn’t!” Kennedy squeals and lunges across the couch at me. She kneels on the cushion in front of me, practically bouncing up and down. “You did!”

“You can’t tell anybody.”

She shakes her head. “I’m going to have to tell Rio. He can keep a secret, though. Don’t worry. He knows that the sex stops if he starts spreading my gossip around.”

I laugh and shake my head. “Alright, fine. You can tell Rio.”

“I need all of the details. Was it big? You have to tell me if it was big. Personally, I think he’s overcompensating for something.”

My cheeks burn hotter as I bury my face in my hands. “We are not talking about how big our boss’s dick is. Not happening. What would your boyfriend think?”

Kennedy cackles as she pries my hands away from my face. “Who cares what Rio thinks? He’s probably seen the dick hundreds of times. I need to find out if my boyfriend isn’t telling me about all the tiny penises he sees.”

I laugh so hard tears are streaming down my face. “You’re insane.”

“Made you feel a little less embarrassed.” Kennedy grins from ear to ear. “I’m serious, though. I want all the details of your torrid affair. You can’t leave anything out.”

“I’m definitely not telling you the details. I’ve already told you too much. I wasn’t supposed to talk about it with anyone.”

Kennedy rolls her eyes as she sits back down on the couch. “I’m not just anyone. I happen to be your best friend. You’re holding out vital information on me and I need to know.”

“There is nothing that you need to know about it. We had one uneventful night before I even knew he was my boss.” I narrow my eyes playfully at her. “I still haven’t forgiven you for not telling me who I was serving.”

Kennedy grins and reaches forward to grab her milkshake off the table. “If I had told you who you were serving, you would have been a lot more nervous.”

“I would argue that I would have spilled the bottle either way. I was set up to fail from the beginning.” I shake my head and look at her, grinning as the front door opens and Rio walks in. “Those damn heels were hell to walk in.”

Rio chuckles and shifts around the bags of groceries he’s holding as he walks to the kitchen. “Why is it that I keep coming home only to find you here? You should be off doing something else.”

“Like what?”

“I don’t know. Maybe making another friend.”

I flip him off before getting up and grabbing my drink. “I do have to get going, actually. There’s dying plants to not water and a movie I’ve been looking forward to watching.”

“You just want to avoid talking about the tiny penis,” Kennedy says as she gets up and walks me to the door.

“Well, at least I know you’re not talking about me,” Rio says, laughing when Kennedy rolls her eyes and holds up her finger and her thumb. She pinches them together, leaving only a tiny space between the two.

“You’re lucky if it’s this big,” she says as I slide on my shoes. As I open the door, Kennedy turns her attention to me. “Text me when you get home to let me know you got there safely.”

“Will do. Have a good night.”

“I will. We’re going to be gossiping all about the night you had.” Kennedy blows me a kiss before shutting the door behind me.

At least something good came out of working at The Brazen.

When I get home, I rummage through the leftovers in my fridge, looking for the burgers that I had made the night before. My stomach growls as I dig them out along with some strips of bacon.

As I put the food on a plate and pop it into the microwave I hum to myself. Once the microwave is going, I type out a quick message to Kennedy only to get an eggplant emoji with a question mark back. Laughing, I put my phone away and head into the living room to pick my movie for the night.

When I sit down to eat, my stomach lurches. I look down at the plate of food and taste bile. Everything about the leftover burgers seems unappetizing. The longer I look at it, the more I want to throw up.

It’s just a burger, Hadley. Stop being a baby and eat your dinner.

The second that I take a bite, my stomach feels like it’s been flipped inside out. I get up and race to the bathroom, immediately throwing up everything I just tried to eat.

As I lean against the bathtub, my heart is racing. I still feel like I’m going to be sick.
