“Says the man who wants to kill my family.”

Felix laughs as we reach the top deck. He shoves me onto one of the couches and nods at a man standing nearby. The man moves closer to me, his gaze weary and his hand on his gun.

I wonder if he knows what I did to his buddy.

As I smile at him, he looks away.

“She’s a little girl,” Felix says, rolling his eyes. “You act as if she’s something to be feared.”

“I’m not.” I smile brightly at the man before glancing over Felix’s shoulder. “But he is.”

Jovan raises his gun as he stands on the deck dripping wet. A shot rings out and the man standing beside me falls to the ground.

“Get his gun, Hadley,” Jovan says as Felix pulls his own weapon.

“Not so fast,” Felix says, pointing his gun at me. “Our little game is just getting started.”

JOVAN

Hadley looks at me with wide eyes. Her gaze darts to the dead man and the gun on the ground. I give a small shake of my head as Felix heads toward her. He keeps his gun trained on her, making sure that I can’t kill him without potentially killing my family too.

Gunshots ring out from the deck below us. Alessio, Rio and I landed on the boat at the same time, but I had heard Hadley cussing Felix out as he brought her to the top deck.

My little spitfire. Still won’t let anybody push her around, even when she could die.

“Now,” Felix says as he looks between the two of us. “This is how this game is going to go. I’m going to kill your family and then I’m going to kill you. It won’t be quick, though. No, you deserve to suffer for all that you’ve done.”

“Take me,” I say as he pulls Hadley to her feet and presses the gun against her head. “Let Hadley go and take me. She doesn’t need to be a part of this. She didn’t do anything wrong.”

Hadley smirks, though I can see the tears shining in her eyes. “Well, I did hit him in the dick with some metal. Killed a guy too. So, I think that saying I did nothing wrong would be a bit of a stretch.”

“Now is not the time to be a smartass,” I say, though I’m proud of her. I knew that she wouldn’t make it easy on Felix and I’m happy to see that she hasn’t. He doesn’t deserve easy.

Felix tightens his hold on her and rams the gun into her temple. She winces in pain before turning to scowl at him. Seeing the gun pressed between her eyebrows makes me feel sick. In a moment’s notice, I could lose her and our child.

“Hadley, I love you, but I need you to let me handle this,” I say, my tone soft as Felix moves to stand behind Hadley. “I’m going to get us out of this but I need you to stop egging him on.”

She glances at me from the corner of her eye. The first tear starts to roll down her cheeks as she nods. My heart breaks seeing the way she cradles her stomach, as if her hands are going to be enough to protect our baby.

“Why don’t we talk about this like men?” I put my gun down, though I know it is a risky move.

However, it’s calculated. Felix wants to take his time with me. He wants to make sure that I truly suffer.

That isn’t going to happen if he can’t get close to me. He knows that the minute Hadley is no longer in my line of fire, I will kill him.

The only way to play his game is to make myself defenseless and hope that Rio or Alessio get up here in time to save Hadley.

“You really think that I’m stupid enough to come near you? Throw the gun overboard,” Felix says, jerking his chin toward the side of the boat.

I do as he says, picking up the gun and throwing it hard over the side. When I turn back to him, I lift my shirt and spin in a slow circle. I have nothing else on me. No guns. No knives.

“Hadley, go sit over there.” Felix points the gun in the direction of the bar. “Make me a drink to enjoy while I rip your boyfriend’s teeth out of his head. After that, I think I might want something else for ripping his nails out.”

“Fucking try it,” I say, standing with my arms wide open. “You want me, here I am.”

More gunshots echo through the evening as the waves lap against the sides of the boat. It would be a beautiful night if I wasn’t taunting a man to kill me.
