“Hadley,” I say as she walks toward the bar. “I love you. And our baby. I’m so sorry for dragging you into this mess and I want you to know that I’m going to do whatever it takes to get you out of it.”

“I love you too,” she says, her breath hitching as she steps behind the bar. “We’re going to be okay.”

Felix clears his throat as he saunters toward me. “If the two of you are done, I have business to attend to.”

As he walks toward me, Hadley watches him. I glance away from her, keeping my attention on Felix. He tucks his gun into the holster at his hip and pulls a knife out of his pocket.

“Seems kind of unfair that I don’t have a weapon, don’t you think?” I ask, taunting him as I start walking backward. “What are people going to say about you? Sure, you took me down but I didn’t have a chance to fight back against it.”

“You really think that I’m going to fall for that shit?”

I shrug and take another few steps back before circling and moving until I stand between Felix and Hadley. As soon as I’m dead, I know he’s going to go after her. I have to stall for enough time until one of my guys can get up here.

Felix grins as he shifts the knife from one hand to the other and back again. “There is no way for you out of this. You can stop playing whatever game you’re playing. I’m going to kill you and then I’m going to kill your girlfriend.”

“Jovan!” Alessio shouts.

I glance at the direction his voice comes from in time to catch a gun. At the same time, Felix shouts. I turn and face him in time to see Hadley punch him in the face, her foot on his wrist to keep herself from getting stabbed.

It looks like all of her self-defense lessons are paying off.

“You fucking bitch,” Felix says, his voice a growl before he spits blood to the side.

I run over to them with the gun pointed at Felix’s head. Hadley puts pressure on his wrist until he drops the knife. She picks up the knife and steps away, hurrying over to where Rio is now standing with Alessio.

“Take her to our boat,” I say without looking at them.

Alessio raises his gun and aims it at Felix. Though he has a clear shot too, we both know that I have to be the one to kill Felix.

I need to be the one to kill Felix for everything he has done to our family.

“Like hell,” Hadley says, venom in her voice. “I want to see the bastard die.”

Felix gets to his feet. “You don’t have the balls.”

“This is for fucking with my family.” Gun trained on the spot between his eyebrows, I pull the trigger as he goes for the gun at his hip.

Felix falls to the ground, blood streaming down his face. I shoot him again for good measure. Hadley comes over and kicks his body in the ribs. “Serves you right, fucker.”

When I turn to Hadley, tears are shining in her eyes and her hands are shaking as they hold the knife.

“It’s okay,” I say as I disassemble the gun and toss the pieces overboard. I walk over to Hadley and pull her into my arms. “Everything is going to be okay. We’re going to go home and everything is going to be fine. You’re safe now. Our baby is safe now.”

Her arms circle my waist and she holds me tight. I kiss the top of her head and hug her until she pulls away and nods. “Everything is going to be okay.”

“We’re going to take you back to the boat and then we are going to burn this one. After that, I’m going to take you home and we’re going to spend the rest of the night relaxing.”

I hold her hand as we head down to the lower deck. Rio jumps in the small tender and speeds across the water to our boat before bringing it closer. Alessio and I help Hadley from one boat and to the other.

As soon as she is on my boat, she tosses the knife into the ocean and rubs her hands on her pants.

“I need you to stay right here,” I say, cupping her face as I lean between the two boats. I kiss her quickly before pulling away. “I love you and everything is going to be alright. I’ll be back in a minute.”

Even though the last thing I want to do is walk away from her, I have a crime scene to dispose of.

Relief fills me at the thought of this finally being over. I don’t have to deal with Felix anymore. He can no longer threaten my family. This was enough to show me there are traitors among our ranks and they are going down with their leader. The clean-up has already started before I left home earlier and by this time tomorrow, all of the bad apples will be in the trash where they belong,

The cartel will be stronger and tighter when all is said and done.
