“Useless bitch. You’re lucky you’re going to the brothel. If you weren’t, I would be breaking that nose of yours right now.”

Two other men appear in the hallway as the man stands tall. They drag away my father before coming back and stepping into the cell.

My heart pounds as I look at the three of them.

Though my stomach tosses and turns, I have nothing left to throw up.

I try to move backward, but a cold wall presses against me.

I could try to get to the door and slam it shut on them. Except, I don’t know where I am or who else is here.

I’m trapped and there’s nothing I can do about it.

“Take her to the brothel to heal and prepare for the sale of her virginity,” the man says, looking at the other two. “If this bitch doesn’t want to cooperate, then her sale date is being moved up. I want her out of my sight immediately.”

The men lunge at me, each taking an arm and hauling me to my feet.

Dark shadows line the corner of my vision as the pain flowing through my body overrides every other thought I have.

As they carry me out of the room, the man in charge leans closer to me.

“You only have your father to thank for being captured tonight. He was nice enough to let me know you were going out for pizza. I never would have been able to get to you without him.”

I sigh as I stare up at the ceiling with my phone on the bed beside me. The rest of the room is dark.

I’ve been trying to fall asleep for the last hour, but I can’t. It feels strange to be in a bed without her. I’m too used to the way she cuddles against me and sighs when she falls asleep.

More than anything, I want to be in my own bed with her and drifting off to sleep.

Maybe I should head home early. I could cut my trip a day short and fly back to her sooner.

I miss her, and I never thought I could miss her this much. It feels like there’s a piece of me missing. And I’m not going to feel whole until I’m back home with her.

A call should be enough for now. Something to hold me over until I can have her in my arms again.

I grab the phone and call her, listening as the phone rings and rings before going to voicemail.

I try her number again. When I get her voicemail a second time, my chest constricts.

It’s not like Zoe to not answer her phone.

Where the hell is she?

When I call her for a third time and there is no answer, I get out of bed and turn on the light.

Maybe she went out with her sister before spending the night with Camila.

Ava had been talking about stealing Zoe away to go dancing.

I had given her the okay with the stipulation that they took security with them.

There’s nothing to worry about.

I’ll just call her again and leave a message, and she’ll call me back when she gets home.
