My heart pounds in my chest, and my hands shake.

I don’t know where Zoe would have gone, but I’m sure that her father took her.

He’s been trying to get her away from me, and he would be stupid enough to go after her while I’m out of town.

I slide into the car and start it up, heading for the airport as fast as I can.

I’m coming, Zoe. Just hold on until I get there.

Camila is standing outside the house when I get there. Her mouth is set in a thin line even as the tears track down her cheeks.

Ava is sitting on the ground with her arms wrapped around her knees. She looks like she’s seen a ghost.

“What do we know?” I ask, looking at Ruben as I pull the gun out of my waistband and check it over.

“My friend called me. She was in the pizza place around the corner when she heard a gunshot.” Camila’s voice wavers slightly as she speaks.

She takes a deep breath, “She noticed a man was on the floor bleeding and someone was grabbing Zoe, but she couldn’t get to her before she was put into a gray van. Copperhead Shipping was written on the side of it.”

“Copperhead Shipping? Is she absolutely sure that’s what it said?” My stomach knots itself as I abandon the taxi I took here.

Camila nods as Ruben gets my bag.

Fuck.

I head for Camila’s car. “That’s a cover for fucking sex traffickers. Take Ava inside and keep her safe.”

“And where the hell do you think you’re going?” Camila asks as she tosses me the keys. “You don’t think that you’re going to get out there and take care of this on your own, do you?”

I scoff and get in the car. “I’m going to get my wife back, and then I’m going to kill the bastards who took her. One by one.”

Camila jogs over to the passenger side of the car and gets in. “I’m going with you. She’s my sister now too, Christian, and we both know that you’re going to need backup.”

I sigh and nod. There isn’t enough time to waste arguing with her. If we don’t get on the road now, we may lose her forever.

If we aren’t already too late.

The streets are dark and empty as I head toward the warehouse district.

Copperhead Shipping operates out of a small warehouse at the end of the district. They’ve been known to move kidnapped women in and out of there in the blink of an eye.

Their leader, Shayne, has tried to do business with me more than once. Every time I tell him that I’m not interested in trafficking people, he sulks like a child and comes back a few months later.

I should have killed him the last time I saw him.

As we get closer to the warehouse, I turn off the headlights and park behind a shipping container.

Camila and I get out of the car, guns drawn.

I take a deep breath, my pulse pounding in my ears.

We head toward the warehouse, keeping to the shadows.

The rest of the world around us is silent as I make my way to the side door and pull on the handle.

The door opens easily.

Camila touches my back as we enter the building.
