I feel like I’m going to be sick as I lead her through the winding stacks of crates to a hidden door in the back.

During one of Shayne’s many pitches to work together, he offered a tour of his facility.

At the time, I thought that it would be a bad idea to waste more time with him, but I could see the benefit of understanding his operation too. If there ever came a time when he crossed me, I would have been able to take him down.

Now, that information is coming in useful.

His hidden brothel is the only place he would take her. It’s a safe enough place, hidden in his legitimate business and only accessible if you get an invitation.

I open up the hidden door, revealing a staircase lit by dim lights on the wall.

Camila and I descend into the basement, careful not to make a sound as we walk.

The door at the bottom of the stairs is open, and the lights are on.

It looks like the brothel is closed tonight.

Good. There won’t be any innocent people in my way.

I look over my shoulder at Camila before pointing to a door nearly hidden by the thick black curtains that drape around the main room. It’s just to the right of the stage.

If there were women in here tonight, it would be completely obscured by the bodies moving around the room.

“I thought that I might find you here soon,” Shayne says as he steps out from behind one of the curtains.

His smile is downright disturbing. “I have to tell you, when I found out that Jeremiah allowed his precious little virgin daughter to marry you, especially after he sold her to me, I was shocked.”

“Where the fuck is Zoe?” I raise the gun and aim, my finger wrapped around the trigger.

Two more men step out of the shadows. Their guns are pointed at Camila, and they grin.

Shayne stands between them, arching his eyebrow like he’s in control here.

He’s dead. He just doesn’t know it yet.

“You don’t want to do this, Christian. I’ll kill your wife and your sister in the blink of an eye.” Shayne smirks as he looks at Camila. “I should have waited until you were with her. I would have been able to take both of you.”

Camila points her gun at him. “If I were you, I would stop goading him.”

Shayne tucks his hands in his pockets and shrugs. “Her father sold her to me, Christian. Just because you married her doesn’t mean that she’s yours. I’ve collected my debt, and in a matter of hours, she is going to be sold off to her new home. Men pay a pretty penny for a virgin these days.”

I tuck the gun in my waistband. All I can see is red as I lunge at Shayne.

Guns point at me, and shots are fired. Two bodies drop to the ground.

He shouts as I tackle him to the ground and slam my knee into his chest.

He wheezes, the air forced from his lung.

As I move to straddle him, he writhes.

There is no getting free. Shayne is going to die for what he did to my wife.

I slam one fist into the side of his face.

His nose gives way under my other fist.

“Get the fuck off me,” Shayne says, spitting out blood as he thrashes beneath me. “I don’t want to die.”
