I pull down the hem of my black dress before sliding into the booth opposite Camila. Christian sits beside me, and Ava slides in beside him while Ruben opts to sit with Camila.

It’s a daring choice, based on how often the pair of them argue.

“Hundred dollars says he’s going to end the night wearing the drink she dumps on him,” Christian says, his voice a whisper in my ear.

He grazes my earlobe with his teeth, sending a shiver down my spine.

“You’re on.” Ava looks across Christian at me with a grin. “They’re grown adults. There is no way that Camila is going to dump a drink on him.”

“You might be surprised.” I grin as I look at the pair on the other side of the table.

They’re already arguing with each other as the bottle service girl drops off the complimentary bottle of champagne.

I smile at my sister. “The pair of them have a hard time getting along for more than an hour at a time. I doubt tonight is going to be any different.”

“Maybe betting against you was a bad idea,” Ava says as she looks at Christian.

Christian smirks and shrugs one shoulder. “Could be. Going to have to wait until later in the night to find out.”

As it turns out, later in the night comes much sooner than anyone expects.

Within an hour, alcohol is soaking through Ruben’s shirt and onto the black leather seat.

He scowls as he slips out of the booth and goes to his office to get cleaned up.

Ava glares at Christian as she opens her clutch and pulls out a hundred-dollar bill. “I’m never betting against you again. Zoe, next time you need to give me a little warning.”

I grin as Christian hands me the hundred dollars. “Come on, I’ll give it back to you if you agree to go buy us an emergency round of shots.”

Ava lights up and takes the bill.

Camila is out of her seat in the blink of an eye, following Ava over to the private bartender for the lounge.

As the pair of them leave, Christian settles in beside me, draping his arm over the back of the booth.

“Are you alright if I have a few more drinks?” I lean into Christian’s side and glance around the room, watching the security team as they move around the perimeter, blending in with the rest of the crowd.

Christian kisses my temple. “Go for it. Have a good birthday. I’ll even hold your hair back when you vomit up the copious amounts of tequila you’ve consumed.”

I throw my elbow into him, my gaze still bouncing around the room and taking it all in.

One day, I’m going to walk into a club and a remix of one of my songs is going to be playing.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see a familiar face.

My brows knit together as I see my dad standing with another man in a dim hallway just to the left of the VIP bar.

Dad holds something out and the man gives him something before taking what’s in his hand.

A pit opens in the bottom of my stomach as I look to Christian.

His jaw clenches.

“Did you see that? What do you think that was about?” My voice wavers.

Christian shrugs. “See what? Maybe they’re just friends meeting up.”

Dad takes his friends to nice restaurants. Not clubs.
