“That’s because the growling turns you on, darling.”

I rolled my eyes, trying to hide my sly grin. He had a point. But I wasn’t about to agree with him when getting distracted would just keep us from finding our target. “I guess if vampires won’t talk to us, then we’ll have to go another route.”

I scrolled through my contact list to get to the number I wanted and then held it up for Eric to see.

He read the name on the screen, “Destiny.”

“She’s a local witch who owns The Smoky Cauldron. She can probably help us out.”

“Are you sure about that?”

I shrugged. “What other options do we have?”

“We could just go home.”

“I’m surprised you said that, Eric.”

He frowned at his hands as he rested them on his knees. “Steven sure didn’t tell us how hard this was going to be.”

I nodded as I clicked on Destiny’s name to call her. “Let’s just hope this works out.”

Several minutes of chatting finally got us a decent lead—Destiny would contact the elusive vampire directly and invite him to a meeting at her shop. Midnight would work fine for everyone involved.

I sighed as soon as I got off the phone. The trip would be over soon. We would have to go back to Beaufort and resume our lives like we hadn’t slept together. Were either of us capable of doing that?

No time to wonder with Eric standing up and dropping his jeans. I blinked several times at his charcoal gray briefs that hardly held the bulge of his cock.

I rubbed the side of my neck. “Already?”

He paused with his shirt halfway over his head and peered through the opening he created with his hands. “Already what?”

“Already ready for another round?”

He stared at me for a moment until he got what I was saying.

Then he just cackled.

I spent the next few seconds shrinking into the wicker chair with my arms crossed over my chest. “You’re the one getting naked here, not me.”

“I’m saving my clothes from getting ripped from my shift.”

“Shift?”

He tossed his clothes aside and held the waistband of his briefs, teasing them away from his hips. “I’m going for a run. You should join me.”

I stared down at my human body. “I’m sure I can’t keep up.”

“I can trot.”

“I don’t want to hold you back.”

He released the waistband of his briefs, causing them to smack against his flesh. Every step he took toward me made the ache in my center worsen.

He scooped my chin, demanding I peer up at his intense sapphire eyes that reminded me of electrical storms. Surely, right now there were more emotions there than there had been last night.

And that was likely because of last night.

“I wasn’t asking, darling.” He gave my chin a light squeeze. “Now, be a good girl and come along.”
