After tapping her chin, I nodded to the table. “Come on. We have beers to drink and things to talk about.”

“What do we have to talk about?”

“Blake said Teresa is in custody with Ander’s clan. She’s going to face a trial for her crimes against the community.”

She sighed with relief. “That’s good to hear.” Then she lowered her voice, looked around, and leaned toward me. “What about Destiny?”

“She’s in custody with the witch community down in Athens. They’re going to hold a joint trial to charge her for the crimes she committed in conjunction with Teresa.”

“And how do you feel about all this?”

I extended my arm away from us and spun my axe once. “I don’t know yet.”

“And me? How do you feel about me?”

“That depends. Did you find a witch yet?”

She smiled. “Yeah, we found someone local. An older woman who lives on the beach. She said she can do a scan to make sure there’s nothing latent in my body.”

“That’s good to hear, darling.” I turned to throw my axe, landing left of center by two inches. “Damn it.”

“Distracted much?” She giggled and then tossed her axe while looking this time. It landed just to the right of mine, but still off the bullseye. “So glad you treat me like a woman.”

I chuckled while rubbing her hip. “Like a woman who knows what she’s doing.”

“Behave. We’re in public.”

“It’s in my Daddy manual to not behave. You know that.”

She laughed while wiggling out of my grip, giving me the most delicious gaze she had given me in a while. “Uh, that’s wrong.”

“How’s that wrong, sugar?”

“Because I’m right.”

I shook my head fondly. “Is that so?”

“Yep, that’s right.” She plucked both axes from the target and brought them back. “You know why my dad wanted you to deliver the amulet?”

“So wolves wouldn’t be afraid of vampires anymore.”

She chortled. “Yeah. My dad. The joker.”

“Steven always knew how to get under my skin. In good ways. Sometimes, it was annoying. But never bad. He was a good man.”

I reached for my beer as Regina did the same. She held up her glass. “To my dad.”

“To your dad.”

Clink.

We both chugged our beers in seconds, tapping the table with the glasses twice before returning our attention to the target. Even after the waiter brought us another round, it barely affected us. Being supernatural had so many perks. But one thing that got to be annoying was the resistance to alcohol.

I had to drink double that of the average guy to get toasted. Regina could probably put a spell on our drinks to increase the potency, but I didn’t want to ask her for another spell, another favor. She had done enough of those. I wanted her to feel good today. I wanted her to celebrate life—and life with me.

I wanted to make everything official.

And it started with us getting to really know each other without any danger hanging over our heads. “So, what do you think of the mate announcement?”
