Page 13 of Grey's Rage

Nick added his weight, and they got the door shut.

Grey’s eyebrow lifted as the SUV rocked side to side as the women tried to escape.

Marissa was still yelling insults as Arturo shoved Carla inside the second, and Grey spotted Sweet Sophia in another.

“Holy crap!” Grey said, wiping his brow.

“I’ll have you arrested!” the blonde shrieked as she climbed to her feet; brave now that the Hawthorne Females were locked up.

“No, you won’t, you skanky bitch. It’s illegal to spread STDs!” Marissa bellowed.

“Call the cops on my cousins, and we’ll have trouble!” Arturo warned. “Remember what I caught you two doing? I won’t hesitate to report it to the police.

Grey wanted to know what Arturo meant, but considering the abuse coming from the SUVs, he mainly just wanted to get the hell out of there. He looked across to the bartender, who’d been watching, highly amused, with his arms folded.

“Thanks for your help, Mac,” he said.

“No problems, prospect. I’ll tell Drake how well you handled them. I’m sure on future call outs, you’ll be the first he dials,” Mac replied.

Yeah, the Hawthorne Females had started a fight at the back of the bar Rage MC co-owned with Hellfire MC.

“Fuck you,” Grey snarled as he tried straightening his suit. He gave it up as a lost job. “What do we do now?” He turned to London, who was grinning at the venom being aimed at the women slinking away.

“Oh, we put them in cooldown. There’s a space on the ground floor. Dylan had it padded so they can’t hurt themselves. We lock them in there until they’re calm,” Nick said, approaching.

“Okay,” Grey muttered, totally bemused.

“That’s not a bad idea. Drake should invest in one of those,” Mac mused as he listened to them.

“Love to see you get Artemis or Irish inside one. Hell, Lindsey and Casey would give you enough trouble.” Grey shook his head.

“True,” Mac agreed.

“Let’s get these back to the offices and be thankful it wasn’t the full mob of Hawthorne Females this time. Good news is we’ll get a bonus,” London said and laughed.

“We do?” Grey asked.

“Oh yeah. Dylan pays us danger money when we go out after them. Even so, despite how tempting the cash is, it ain’t worth dealing with them,” Arturo explained. He eyed his female relatives with a dire look and received the two-fingered/one-finger salute from all of them.

“Dude, you should have put your foot down when they were younger,” Nick complained and swung into his SUV.

“Wait, do we have to drive with them sitting behind us?” Grey asked with a healthy amount of fear.

“Nope. There’s a glass section that we can erect. Like in a limo. Dylan had them all installed after Imelda smacked him around the head and nearly caused an accident,” London said as he aimed his ass for the empty SUV.

“Oh no you don’t, fucker,” Grey stated, reaching out and grabbing him. “You’re going to show me how that works.”

“Newbie asshole,” London complained but did as he was asked.

I was in fits of laughter as Grey explained what had happened with the Hawthorne Females. It amused me that they came with their own title, like the Hellions or Princesses. Grey was unamused as we ate in a local diner as he complained about the condition of his suit after wrestling the girls into the holding cell Dylan provided for them.

I allowed Grey to think he’d have to deal with them as an odd occasion. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that Hawthorne’s were called out at least twice a week to sort out one of the Hawthorne women. But the bonuses would make it worth it for Grey.

It made me happy to see how he was settling down for his new job and role. Honestly, it was quite a challenge. And Grey had not even flinched. Not once. Not when he made the decision to leave the Bureau, or when he’d taken on the job at Hawthorne’s, or his prospect role at Rage.

The first week, it hadn’t struck me as odd because he’d worn his suits to the office. But when he’d come home in jeans and a tee, wearing his cut, that’s when it had kicked in. Grey wouldn’t support me in the field anymore. That comforting presence of one hundred per cent knowing I was safe was gone. I had to trust in my new partner, which was difficult after having Grey at my side for a decade.
