But seeing how free and relaxed he’d become was amazing. We no longer had to hide our love and could be open about it. Grey loved to hold hands as we walked down the street or went somewhere together. We’d gone to a bar and seen several of my colleagues and not had to hide what we were to each other. That was freeing in itself.

Grey was bendable, especially compared to me. He was able to move easily within roles, and nothing fazed him.

Both Dylan and Rage were lucky to have him. I knew the brothers were giving him a harder time than usual because he was an ex-fed. Rage would be testing his loyalties, too. But there was no need. Once Grey committed to something, he was one hundred per cent in. However, I understood Rage would need time to understand that.

Now, we were settling into a routine. Grey would meet me for dinner before heading to Rage at seven. He’d come home at eleven and get up at six the next morning to go gym and head for Hawthorne’s. At weekends, he was fully committed to Rage, but that was fine because I was around the clubhouse a lot more. Dad loved that. Even so, he still attempted to bully Grey, who refused to be scared of Dad.

Everything, for once, was going perfectly fine in our lives.

So… when would the shit hit the fan? Because it always did around Rage. And Grey and I were Rage, me a princess and him a prospect. Things were going too well for us. And I was slightly on edge, waiting for the hammer to drop.

Chapter Four.

Grey – Two weeks later.

He watched Willow climb up the stairs to the private plane that Phoe had provided. Even though she’d flown in it before, she still looked impressed.

Grey was all smiles as the air hostess helped them into seats and brought them a mimosa before the captain announced they were taxiing down the runway.

Grey had flown multiple times but never in a private aircraft. The sheer luxury around him astounded him, and he finally realised how the other half lived.

Willow was loving the lunch he’d carefully prepared for her, and she appeared chilled out.

He smiled as she kicked her shoes off and stretched out her foot to rub his leg. Grey wasn’t stupid. He noticed what she wanted, and he reached down and grabbed her foot, offering a little tickle before massaging it.

“Willow, did you like that last house?” Grey asked.

They had visited two houses before arriving at the airport. They’d been house viewing all week, and nothing had captured their fancy. Yet the last house they’d seen this morning had certainly caught his.

It was an old colonial build and rather a disaster. All original features were intact, but it remained vacant due to a family dispute over ownership. One that had lasted twenty years. Neglect had taken its toll on the building, causing damage. But Grey had a positive feeling about the place. He could see him and Willow living there and, later on, kids roaming around the large backyard. Even better had been a wide, sturdy oak tree that would be perfect for a treehouse.

“I liked it,” Willow replied cautiously.

Grey felt himself deflate. “Just like?”

Willow appeared uncertain.

“Tell me, babe,” he urged.

“Okay, I loved it, but it’s so much work. And will cost a fortune to upgrade,” Willow said in a rush.

“Good job I get those fucking Hawthorne Female bonuses,” Grey teased.

His dreams of being rarely called out for the Hawthorne Females had been dashed in the past two weeks. However, he did have six very nice fat rewards coming his way. Grey had soon realised that a part of his role would be handling those feisty ladies.

If anyone feared the Hawthorne men, they shouldn’t. The guys had nothing on the women.

Willow snickered.

“You knew!” Grey accused.

“They’re legendary amongst the Rage and allied women. There’s never a dull moment with them around. The stories keep us all entertained,” Willow said with a smile.

“They are more dangerous than their brothers and cousins,” Grey complained.

“Oh, I know. It’s not a complete surprise men shake when they turn up in force. James Washington used to have an alert system, but his door guards were shit scared of them and wouldn’t stop them entering the clubs. In the end, James gave them all their own space, which must lose him money, but it stops him going grey,” Willow teased with a smirk.

“You love those women.”
