Page 22 of Grey's Rage

I gaped as Grey brought out a tiny blue box and opened it. The ring inside stunned me stupid.

A beautiful cut square sapphire surrounded by diamonds. It wasn’t overly large, but it was most certainly stunning. The ring gleamed gold with small diamonds inset into the shoulders that held the sapphire and larger diamonds.

“Say something,” Grey begged.

“Yes,” I squealed and threw my arms around him. “Always yes, I love you so much. I can’t believe this. We’re getting married!”

“Your dad approves, by the way,” Grey added with a grin, and I threw my head back and laughed.

“I am so glad we don’t have to leave the country,” I teased.

“Me too.” Grey surged up from his knees and claimed my mouth. “I’m getting to live the dream.”

Grey

Willow lay sprawled across the bed. Whenever Grey left her alone, she automatically spread out, but when he climbed in next to her, she immediately curled into him. It was something he also loved about her. What the hell? He was a sap in love and didn’t care who knew it.

It was early, but he knew the person he was about to call would be awake.

He moved out to the decking and shivered in the cool air.

Oh well, this wouldn’t take long. Grey sighed and dialled the number.

“Fuckin’ asshole, you couldn’t ring and tell me last night?” Axel boomed.

“Some shit happened,” Grey replied.

“I don’t want to know what you both did. I’m her father!” Axel bellowed.

“Not quite what I meant. We ended up arresting somebody on the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted.”

Axel fell silent and then, in an incredulous voice, said, “You took my girl out to a fancy restaurant planning to propose, and she fuckin’ arrested someone?”

“Not at dinner. First, we had to tail him,” Grey complained.

Axel was silent, and Grey could hear Ellen asking what was wrong.

Finally, Axel burst into laughter. “That shit would only happen to you two.” He chuckled merrily away. “That will make the proposal one to remember.”

“Oh, you’re telling me. We’d just got to dessert, then Willow spotted the perp.”

“Tell me,” Axel encouraged.

Grey didn’t want to, but he knew Axel wouldn’t lighten up otherwise. Grey told Axel everything—and including the proposal last night, in bed. Axel grumbled at that.

“Er, didn’t Texas ask Penny to marry him by throwing a ring at her?” Grey demanded.

Axel subsided in his blustering. “She happy?” he asked wistfully.

“Yeah, she loves the ring,” Grey replied softly.

“That is all that matters. Of course, I’d prefer her not to hitch her wagon to an ex-fed, but can’t complain. At least you’re breaking your back for her.”

“Suppose that’s praise,” Grey snarked.

“Be grateful I’m not pounding your face!”

“True, I’ll get her to call when she wakes up. She’ll no doubt want to show Ellen her ring.”
