Barry was incredibly tempted to prove her wrong. But he wasn’t ready to toss away his own reasons for not deepening their relationship. He forced a laugh as he sat up straighter in his seat. “Maybe you’re right.”

The next hour was incredibly painful. He tried to continue their conversation without worsening his condition, but had minimal success.

Everything about her aroused him more.

The way her lips parted when she talked, the way she nibbled on the appetizers, her smile, the way her breasts rose and fell when she breathed, the sexy legs that were exposed by her shorts, her ass when she bent to get something from the bottom compartment of the TV unit… All of it!

“I should go.” He shot up to his feet when it became too much. “It’s getting late.”

“But it’s a Sunday tomorrow,” she reminded him. “You don’t have anything planned, do you?”

“I’m meeting up with Nigel,” he lied. “Sorry.”

“That’s okay.” She sighed. “I guess I have to let you go.”

But she didn’t do it immediately. She walked him down to his car.

Barry was a little too wound up to initiate a goodbye hug. However, Xolani had no such problem. Before he got into the car, she walked right to him, lifted on tiptoes and put her arms around his neck. Though his brain was screaming, ‘step away from that dangerous woman’, he wound his arms around her waist.

It’s just a hug, he swore while gathering her deeper into his arms until he could feel every inch of her body pressing into his. Damn! This feels good.

He’d never realized that he loved hugs until he met Xolani. They were not as great as sex or kissing, but they’d definitely worked their way to being one of his top five ways to show intimacy. If he couldn’t have her like he wanted, then hugging like this was a decent consolation prize.

But of course, it had to end.

“Okay, then.” Xolani lowered her arms from his neck. “I’ll see you around.”

He should’ve let her step away from him, but as her hands lowered, he grabbed both of them. Playing with her fingers, he asked, “You’ll see me around? Does that mean that it will be three weeks again until we can hang out?”

Avoiding his eyes, she asked, “I didn’t know you were counting.”

Was she avoiding his eyes because she was shy? That was incredibly endearing. An odd but warm feeling built in Barry’s stomach. Before he knew it, he’d dragged her back into his embrace.

“I was.” Driven by instinct, he kissed her cheek. “I miss you when you’re not around me.”

He didn’t know if it was that kiss on the cheek that did it. But when he pulled his face back, Xolani followed him and kissed him too. Not on the cheek… straight on the lips.

He wasn’t expecting that, and at first he was motionless. But as soon as his senses realized what was going on, they jumped in headfirst. He cupped the back of her head and firmed his mouth over hers. Her lips parted in a gasp, and he immediately took the opportunity to dip his tongue in.

“Mm!” she moaned and gripped both his arms.

That moan was like electricity speeding through him. He felt awakened, alive, and incredibly hungry for something that wasn’t food. He shoved his tongue deeper into her mouth even as he nibbled on her upper and lower lips in turn.

She tasted amazing; sweet and a little tart like the orange juice, delicious like a meal he’d been starving for. The more he tasted her, the more he wanted. Her lips were thick and succulent, perfect for toying with. Her tongue was like a sword dueling with his in a match that he was bound to lose.

As if the kiss wasn’t temptation enough, she kept rubbing her body against his as they kissed as if begging him to touch her. He complied by slowly lowered his hands down her spine until they were on the small of her back. If he moved his hands just a few inches down, he’d be cupping her buttocks. Only the knowledge that they were outside kept him from grabbing her cheeks like he wanted to. He soothed himself by drinking in as much of her as he could.

Each second of that kiss drew them both deeper into an erotic game that was incredibly difficult to walk away from. But somehow, Xolani pulled herself out.

She tore her lips from his and pressed her hands to his chest, pushing him away. Breathlessly, she said, “You can count that as payment for helping me out today. Goodnight.”

Then before he could get a word out, she escaped from his hold and scampered toward the apartment building.

Barry would’ve chased her, but that kiss had left his legs feeling as heavy as lead. By the time he recovered, she was already out of sight. He rubbed his lips with his thumb and pensively studied the building’s entrance.

Should I go to her?

No. His common sense intervened. The fact that she ran means she doesn’t want you to follow.
