She fought against the sensation and gently pushed out of his hold, steadying herself on her feet.

“Then why did you call my office?” he asked.

“Why didn’t you call me back?”

“I did.”

“Y-you did?” Jinx pulled her phone out of her purse and there it was. A voice mail message from Logan Bennett.

She played it: Guess your call was about Portia. She loved my wrist cuff. If you want to talk about how to handle her or want me to send my limo to the North Fork to pick you up, reply on this number.

Jinx blew out a sigh. “Look, I know I should be thanking you instead of acting like a little snit, but it’s all so confusing. All that stuff with my brother—”

“Lies.” Eyes locked on each other, they stood silent, her mind racing with all kinds of thoughts, past and present, while her body just wanted to melt against his.

“You were the only one who believed me back then,” he murmured.

She closed her eyes, then slowly nodded, whispering, “I still do.”

His hand reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, giving her shivers. “How come you didn’t wear any earrings tonight, to show off one of your designs?”

She smirked. “I did. I wore a four-hundred-dollar pair that Portia just had to have immediately. Whether she will ever pay me for them…”

“She will. Portia’s not a bitch or a conniver.”

“Did you two have a fling?” Jinx could hardly believe she asked it, but at this point she was ready to lay it all on the table.

“No,” he said. “She’s a client and friend.”

“Are you married now? Have kids?”

“Neither.”

Jinx was on a roll asking him these things, leaving herself open, revealing just how much she cared. But what did she have to lose? For all she knew she would never see Logan again for the rest of her life. “What about that blonde beauty that’s at your side in most the photos of you online?”

His gave her a half smile. “So, you’ve been stalking me online.”

Jinx pursed her lips. “I might have done a search or two.”

“Deena has a husband and three kids. She is my best friend, the closest thing to a sister I have.”

“You’ve got an awful lot of female friends.” Jinx shook her head. “I don’t know why I’m asking all this.”

“Because you want me.”

She looked down at the floor, knowing he was right, but Logan’s finger came under her chin and lifted it, making her meet his eyes.

“You used to have a crush on me,” he said.

“Big surprise. Like you didn’t know that all those years.”

“Come spend the night with me.”

She held back a gasp. Then recovered and said, “If my brother ever found out…”

“I thought you didn’t want a big brother controlling you.”

Jinx gazed at him, trying to decide what to do, not wanting to miss what could be her one chance to satisfy her biggest fantasy, that dream of dreams she’d had for so long. But still, she didn’t want to be just another female on what was no doubt a long list.
