Jinx was not going to tell him that Victor was still here at her parents’ house, not after what Logan had told her about seeing him at Bajinx and doing a one-eighty. Luckily she had already asked her summer help to work the holiday weekend because she knew her family had planned a party for Victor and Regan—which she would now miss. But Jinx had already shared a congratulatory dinner with her brother and his fiancée and had given Regan a bracelet she’d picked out when they came to Bajinx and then took them out for lunch in Greenport, so they would be fine without her.

Especially when she could see Logan needed this time to escape with her as much as she needed it.

“You know my place is on the West side, and the fireworks tonight are on the East River, so we would only be able to see a smidgen of high flyers from here,” Logan said. “But a friend gave me tickets to a viewing party happening on the Eighty-sixth floor of the Empire State Building where there is an open-air deck and they’re having an open bar and hors d’oeuvres made by a really good chef.”

“Why am I not surprised?” she said.

“What do you mean?”

“You know everybody and like to be on top of everything that is going on.”

“Not really. But I like to be on top of you,” he said, hovering over her.

She grabbed him and pulled him down, saying, “The last time we watched fireworks in the same place on the Fourth of July you had a date with you and I was way back on a blanket with my friend Bailey. I watched you more than I watched what was going on in the sky. And every time you and that girl touched or kissed, I wanted to attack her and yank her away from you.”

With a soft chuckle, Logan brushed his hand over her cheek and said, “None of the girls I dated ever meant anything special to me, Jinx, because none of them were you.”

That melted her to butter at the same time heating up every inch of her. Jinx wrapped him in her legs, kissing him deeply. He licked his way down to her lady parts where he worked her clit, then dipped his fingers into her folds, his marvelous mouth sending her over the edge as her hands gripped his head and she screamed out her orgasm.

“Now it’s time for my breakfast,” she said, taking his cock in her mouth and making love to his most private part with her tongue and her lips, her hands cupping his balls. Jinx loved having the power to render Logan weak and moaning. When she finished him off, swallowing her first dose of protein for the day, they collapsed together on the bed, and stayed there gazing out at the New York City skyline.

“I can’t imagine ever getting enough of you,” he murmured, his lips near her forehead, his arm across her waist as she lay on her back next to him.

“I know,” she whispered, loving the feel of his hard muscles against her, and that sandalwood scent of him, his hands that seemed to know exactly what she wanted, and, yes, his sexy eyes. “Maybe we’re making up for all those years we were apart. I dated a lot of guys, Logan, even talked myself into thinking I was falling in love a couple times, but there was always something missing for me—and I know that something was you.”

His hand stroked hair dark hair, his fingers combing through her thick waves. “I’m sorry I disappeared on you, Jinx, but I had no choice. Aside from the ugly warning Victor gave me about ever going near you, I didn’t want to put you in the horrible position of having to choose between me and your brother. But I hated the thought of never seeing you again, of giving up all the things we’d talked about doing when you were at college in Philadelphia. And you were turning eighteen, which meant maybe we’d have a chance to test out what there was between us. It killed me to do it, but that was why I had to change my email and phone, because I knew, in a moment of weakness, I would give in and contact you.”

“I was so upset I nearly flunked out of school.”

“What?” He turned to look her in the eye.

“Yeah. I started getting drunk every night, sometimes partying, sometimes just drinking alone. You were the light of my life and you were gone.”

“I’m so sorry.”

“I understand why you did it.” Jinx was about to say she was looking into a way to uncover the truth, but her efforts had produced so little so far and she did not want to reveal that Victor was still at her parents’ house or even bring up that issue still lurking between them. “One night I was so drunk I fell down a flight of stairs and ended up in the hospital.”

“Jinx, I…”

“It’s okay.” She touched his arm. “I only had some cracked ribs and a split lip and a broken ankle that put me on crutches for a while. Luckily the college’s admin offices were closed at night so the hospital asked me directly for an emergency contact instead of getting it from my college records, and I gave them Bailey instead of my family. I didn’t want their judgment and I would’ve had to make up some stupid story because I wouldn’t be able to tell them I was upset over losing you.”

His brows knit. “Was Bailey living in Philadelphia?”

“No, the North Fork, but she jumped right in her car and was there at the hospital before dawn. I had a roommate at the dorm, so we put a sleeping bag on the floor of our room for a week while Bailey stayed with me. My roommate was okay about it, since she didn’t want to be the one helping me out. Bailey was the only one I ever talked to about you, and she understood what you meant to me.”

“Did your parents ever find out about the accident?”

“Yes,” she said with a little snicker. “I convinced them it was ‘girl away from home for the first time’ syndrome. I think Natalie guessed the truth because she kept calling me and trying to get me to talk, but I saw her as being against you and would never open up to her.”

“Then you really believed I didn’t betray Victor.”

“Of course. I just didn’t know what to do about it, especially since you were not around to tell me your side of the story.” Worried they were getting into dangerous territory that could spoil this perfect morning, Jinx sat up and said, “I’m starving. Let’s go make some breakfast.”

“Nope. I’m taking you to Old John’s for breakfast. We can walk there.”

“Is that the place you said has chocolate chip pancakes?”

“It is.” He stood up and stretched. “And on the way home we can pick up some food to make here later.”
