“I have such a great time with you,” I utter sincerely as we pack up the basket, leaving it by the fence.

“Yeah, I like to spend time with you too,” she admits as she climbs onto her horse.

“Then why are we doing this?” I ask, seeing an opening. “We should stop. I want to be with you for real. I want a monogamous relationship.

Kelly chuckles, casting my words aside. “I already told you, Enzo. That’s not in the books for me.”

With a kick to her horse, she turns around and gallops off. I scoff, furious as I watch her go.

“Ithink I’m really beginning to like Enzo,” I say on the phone, waiting for her to respond.

The long pause on the other end verifies the shock I knew was bound to follow at my confession.

“What?” Alessia exclaims. “I don’t know what I’m more shocked by. The fact you have feelings or you have them toward Enzo. How did it happen?”

“I’m being a terrible friend. Your honeymoon is more important than whatever it is I have with your brother. How was it?” I ask, trying to lead her away from the topic all of a sudden.

Although Alessia has no problem with me dating her brother, I’ve never opened up about my feelings for him to anyone before. I still need a moment to think it through before I talk about it again.

“I know what you’re doing, Kelly, but I’ll bite. Know we’re returning to the topic of you and my brother, though.”

I nod, even though she can’t see me. “Now, tell me about your honeymoon. I’m curious to know.”

"OMG, it was amazing. We went shopping, and visited tiny little restaurants acclaimed to be hidden gems. I've only just started appreciating food since I found them."

"We got lots of massages and swam in the ocean. Oh, everything was so fun, but it was Michael’s company that made it all worthwhile,” she says with a sigh.

I smile when I hear the love so very obvious in her voice. “You sound like you only just fell in love.”

“And would be true. With Michael, every day is a new day to fall in love like we just met,” she says happily.

“I’m happy for you, my darling.”

“Thank you. Now I’m back, we can see each other, and I’ll give you all the gist of things,” she promises. “Now, back to the topic you’ve been avoiding. How exactly did you end up in this situation with Enzo?”

I exhale. “Well, the first two weeks of our relationship was very love-bombing. He love-bombed the shit out of me and took me on the best date.”

“Really?” Alessia replies, the surprise clear in her voice.

“Exactly my reaction. I wasn’t expecting much the first few dates I went on with him. However, for such an asshole, he plans on some pretty excellent dates. I don’t believe I’ve had as much fun with anyone than I’ve had with Enzo."

"He even took me to a farm, of all places. We’d never talked about a farm; yet somehow, he knew I’d never been to one. We went horse riding and then enjoyed a picnic with wine from the Lombardi winery and food he made himself. Can you believe it? I didn’t know he could cook."

Alessia gasped excitedly. “I didn’t know either. What do you think this means?”

“I don’t know for certain. All I know is he was pulling out all stops because he was trying to beat Miles because I told him the man was the best at planning dates,” I explain.

“Yeah, it doesn’t surprise me one bit. Enzo has always been very competitive,” Alessia laughs. “He’s doing it to win.”

I groan. “The craziest part is, although I know it, it’s working. I like him.”

“What?” I hear the disbelief in her voice. “Really? Okay, I don’t think my honeymoon is important. We girls need to meet up soon so we can have a proper conversation about this.”

“Yeah, I’ll catch the girls up on recent developments anyway,” I say dejectedly. Things aren’t going the way I planned for them to go at all and it irks at me.
