“But don’t you have any advice to give me?” I ask.

“My brother is a complicated man, Kelly, and I know the type of person you are. I don’t want anyone to get hurt.”

“Ugh… I don’t know what to do,” I whine, running my free hand down my face.

“I’m so sorry, Kelly. The only advice I can give is to try communicating. If Enzo is putting in the effort to be in a non-monogamous relationship when he’s not the one keeping other women, you should talk to him and try to see maybe if he’ll open up to you.”

“You think he will?” I ask her, hope blooming in my chest despite what I know.

“I’m not too sure about Enzo. I don’t want you to get your hopes up. I just think you should try anyway,” she advises.

“Okay, I will. I don’t think there’s anything sincere on his end either, but I’ll try talking to him and find out where his head is at and what he’s feeling,” I agree.

“Alright, let me know how it goes.”

I end the call and scroll to his contact, debating between calling or texting.

Kelly: I think it’s time I plan a date for the two of us. Be here and ready tonight.

The doorbell rings. I nervously look at the table spread I prepared and the pot simmering on the stovetop.

“You have my key code. Why didn’t you use it?” I ask when I open the door, responding to his kiss.

“It’s a date at your house. There are procedures to this,” he grins, a beautiful smile lighting up his handsome face.

I laugh nervously, my thoughts fixed on my conversation with Alessia. “Well, come on in.”

“Mm…. Something smells divine,” he says. “You cooked?”

His eyes are wide with shock when I nod.

“I figure since this will be the first date I plan for the two of us, we could have some home-cooked meal and stay in for a change,” I say lightly. “Come, sit.”

I walk to the kitchen and return with the food, plating it. “I hope you like it. I don’t remember the last time I did this.”

“Coming from you, I’m pretty sure I’m going to like it.”

I smile at his words and take a seat as we enjoy the pasta and seafood dish I prepared.

“So, I was hoping we would have a cute little date where we get to talk and, you know, get to know each other better, past the basics and what we have heard from friends and families,” I say, pasting a smile on my face although I’m a nervous wreck.

“Oh? That’s great,” he responds, forking pasta in his mouth.

“Yes, I was hoping to have a deeper connection with you,” I say.

“Really?” his lip tilts upward with a smirk. “If you wanted to go deep with me, all you had to do was say so and I’ll go as deep as you want.”

I sigh, keeping my face blank. “I’m being serious, Enzo.”

He pauses and nods, placing his fork on the plate. “Okay, what did you want to talk about?”

“Well…” I mull it over. There’s so much I don’t know about him I hope he’ll open up about. “Our families, for one. You already looked me up so you know a lot about me. I didn’t do the same, so I’m almost blank.”

I pause and think of what to ask first. The last thing I want to do is freak him out by going into deep questions so soon.

“Are you close with your dad?” I ask finally.

Enzo nods slowly. “Yeah, close enough. We both work together and share a lot of goals and aspirations. I’m kind of the golden child, considering I do everything the way Dad wants, and he’s never had a reason to complain.”
