New face? What the Fuck? Do they all know each other?

Another notification comes in before I can think any further about it.

Reese: Get with the program, buddy. Don’t be an asshole.

Asshole? If anyone’s an asshole here, it’d be him. Why can’t they all just find someone else to be with? Kelly cares for him and not them, or else she wouldn’t be spending so much time with him while neglecting them. Shouldn’t they have figured it out by now?

I tap the message bar to text back when I see he has blocked me. I glare at the phone when another notification comes in. Has he decided he has more to say before he blocks me again?

I look at the text, but it isn’t from Reese.

Clifford: What’s this? Whoever you are, you clearly know nothing about Kelly, because if you did, you wouldn’t be acting so stupid.

I inhale deeply as I read the text, angered by the words I’ve just read.

Me: Who the hell are you calling stupid?

I furiously type out and stare at my phone, waiting for the next text. My jaw clenches in anger when he doesn’t deem it necessary to respond. I toss my phone on the passenger seat and stare out the window as rage builds inside me. This isn’t going the way I expected it to go.

My phone rings once again, drawing my attention back to it; although this time, instead of a message, I get a call. The sound of mocking laughter greets my ears, and I pull it away to see the name on the caller ID. My hand wraps around the phone tightly until the veins pop when I see the name Jonathan, boldly written there.

“Dude, what is this? Is this some sort of a prank?” his voice, still filled with laughter rings out.

I frown at his tone of voice. “This is not a prank. I’m just clearly telling you to stay away from my girlfriend.” I grind out, completely frustrated by these men.

“Whoa, okay. Why do you think you get to tell us to leave her alone? Do you think you’re the only one who loves her?” he asks calmly.

“Huh? I don’t know what game you’re playing, but you sure as hell don’t love her. If you did, you’d be her only boyfriend, which is exactly what I’m trying to achieve here,” I grit out, unable to contain my anger.

None of these men know what love is, yet they pretend like they do just to get on my nerves.

“I don’t think you understand the meaning of love, buddy. If you truly love her as you claim, then you’ll respect the way she chooses to love you. You’re not the only one who likes Kelly, buddy. We all do, which is why we take what we can get,” he says.

“Do you know who I am?” I ask him furiously. So far the men have made a mockery of me and made tried to make me feel pathetic for even doing this. I’m not backing down because I know what I want.

“I don’t know who you are, buddy, but you can bet everyone knows who I am.”

“Name your price,” I say as a latch ditch effort. “What do you want? Do you want money?”

Just as when the call first started, he laughs in the phone, the sound annoying and shrill, grating on my nerves. With that, he hangs up, leaving me in brooding silence. While it would’ve been very easy to deal with those who cross me, all these men I’m talking to are all powerful, so there’s nothing I can do to any of them.

All the guys have made me feel pathetic about what I have imagined as a foolproof plan. I scroll down the phone until I end at Miles’ message. The double tick shows he had read it and yet he doesn’t read or respond to what me. Kelly had mentioned to me in the past he was a very quiet guy, so he likely won’t respond. Does mean he’s listening to me?

I drive off to my place, ready to jump in bed and sleep off this embarrassment of a day, so I can come up with a better plan on how to get Kelly all to myself. There’s no way I intend to continue sharing her with these guys.

*****

It’s been hours since the very embarrassing conversations I had with those other guys. I could not sleep like I intended, not it surprised me. I sigh once again, still unable to rid myself of the anger their messages and phone calls brought on. I look at my phone to check, like I’ve been doing since I returned home, if Miles has responded to my message, but the ‘read’ message status mocks me.

The doorbell rings and I frown. I’m not expecting anyone, nor did I order anything. I walk the short distance to my front door and look at the view cam, surprised to see Kelly standing outside.

“Kelly?” my voice hints at my surprise. “I didn’t expect to see you here. You didn’t say you were coming over.”

I opened the door wider to let her in, happy she’d missed me and came to see me. She steps in wordlessly, not returning my smile or saying anything in response to my words.

“Did you go through my phone?”

A chill runs through me at her words. Her voice is calm, her face neutral. She doesn’t appear to be angry, and yet I know she is. There’s no way she’d be here if she wasn’t. Deep fear penetrates my chest. I’d seen her angry before but this chilling calm she oozes is another level of anger.
