I nodded, knowing that Mr West would be in the office all day today because he had a meeting with another CEO that he’d been banging on about for weeks.

“Me too, honey. Unfortunately, he’s got that meeting with Mathias & Co—”

“Hurry up, girls, Mr West is in a foul mood today,” Toby, a guy who worked a few floors down from us, warned as he whizzed past us. “He's still looking devilishly sexy, though.”

I rolled my eyes as he swooned. Toby was the one thing that kept me going all day, sending me funny memes and office gossip via email. Without him, I probably would’ve thrown myself from the twentieth floor I worked on.

“Cody told me that Larissa from accounts gave him a blow job in the restroom.” Toby nudged me, his eyes gleaming. He loved to gossip.

My eyes widened as we stepped into the elevator, Michelle and I exchanging sniggers at Toby’s gossip snippet.

“Don’t,” I groaned, smiling at Michelle before pressing the button for the twentieth floor. “We have to look at Mr West all day.”

Toby arched a brow. “Poor you. I get to look at the ugliest man on the planet.”

“Aww, but Ali is so sweet!” Michelle smiled. She was right; Toby's boss, Ali,wassweet, unlike our boss.

“You can’t fuck sweet.” Toby sniffed. “If I had a man like Mr West, I’d be under his desk with my tongue—”

“Excuse me.” A voice coughed as someone pushed past us to exit the elevator, and we fell about laughing.

“How have you not been fired?” I grinned, sighing as I mentally prepared myself for the long day ahead.

“Fuck knows. Maybe I’m too pretty.” Toby mused, stroking his jaw. “Or maybe Mr West has a crush on me, and that’s why?”

“How was your weekend?” Michelle asked as Toby winked.

“Oh, it was full of cock, I’m not going to lie. Oh, this is me, girls,” he trilled, striding out of the elevator.

“Full of cock? He kills me.” Michelle coughed, her face luminous red as the elevator reached our floor.

I patted her on the back, glancing around us anxiously. “Are you alright? I’ll get you some water—”

“My office.” An irritated voice boomed, and dread swept through me.

Cue my boss, Alexander James West. He stood, hands on hips, his eyebrows raised. “Are you deaf?”

I coloured instantly, dropping my hand from Michelle’s back.

“Sorry, Mr West, I’ve got a cough—” Michelle began, choking out her words.

“Can you breathe?” Mr West snapped, his icy blue eyes raking over Michelle.

“Uh, yes.”

“Then why do I need to know? My office, now.”

I gulped, exchanging a look with Michelle. He must mean both of us, but he’d never done this before. Called us both the minute we stepped out of the elevator.

“What have we done now?” I hissed at Michelle, who shrugged, her eyes like saucers.

We followed Mr West into his office to find him staring at his laptop screen, tapping away furiously. My heart raced in my chest; the room itself was intimidating. Floor-to-ceiling windows and barely any furniture greeted you as you walked in, no plants, no photos—

“Notyou.” Mr West barked at Michelle, who jumped beside me. “You.” He didn’t even look up at me; he merely jabbed a finger in my direction.

Michelle shot me a sympathetic look before scurrying off, closing the door behind her. My fingers gripped my bag, my chest tightening with every silent moment.

His dark brows knitted together as he glared at the screen, muttering something under his breath.
