“Mr West?” I asked, tired of waiting for him to address me.

His eyes flickered to me with annoyance as he raked a hand through his jet-black hair, barking orders at me. “I need flowers delivered to this address. Book a table for six at Lorenzo’s for Friday. You’re also coming to the meeting with Mathias & Co today, so for fucks sake, sort yourself out. Don’t you own a dress? Why is your hair wet?”

My cheeks flamed beneath his critical gaze, and I bit my lip, staring at the floor.

“Are you ignoring me?” He demanded, his cheeks flushing with anger.

My head whipped up, and I gasped. “No, Mr West.”

“Sort yourself out,” he commanded.

I wasn’t sure what he was referring to; my expression must’ve told him that.

“Your hair. Your clothes. Sort them out.”

What the fuck?

“I’d rather not,” I snapped, refusing to have him tell me how to dress and do my hair.

“Do you like getting paid, Elizabeth?” Mr West purred silkily, moving from behind the desk to rest against it, his tattooed fingers drumming against it.

I stared at him in disbelief. He was hardly conventional — He probably didn’t even know what rights in the workplace meant—

“Yes, but it’s not in my contract to do everything you say.” I gasped, my hand covering my mouth as his eyes darkened, his jaw tightening.

“Whatdid you say to me?”

My fingers moved of their own accord, and I tried to tidy my hair into something semi-decent.

“For fuck’s sake. You’re myassistant, Elizabeth, and you look like you’ve just fucking woke up. Go and buy a dress, and for fucks sake, dry your bird's nest of hair. The meeting starts in an hour. Go.” He raised a brow to me, pushing himself off the desk. “If you give me that clueless look again, I won’t be responsible for my actions.”

“Are you threatening me, Mr West?” I backed away from his stare, but I held his gaze.

His lips twisted into a smile, and a shiver danced down my spine. “You fucking wish.”

REIGN

The heavens opened just as I stepped into the lobby of West Industries, and I grinned as the pretty receptionist chuckled at me.

“Wow, you timed that right.”

“I did, didn’t I?” I laughed, glancing at Elliott, my assistant. “I’m lucky like that.”

Elliott smiled politely and signed us in while I wondered how AJ ran his business according to what I’d heard from his staff.

I wouldn’t do business with him if I had a choice; put it that way.

“Here you are.” The receptionist slid two badges over to us, declaring us visitors. “You’re on the second floor, boardroom three.”

“Thank you…?” I waited for her to tell me her name, and she blinked like a rabbit in headlights.

“Dee.”

“Thanks, Dee.” I picked up the badges, handing one to Elliott.

Dee looked like I’d slapped her.
