“I got a little car sick on the way over here. I’d love a glass of water.”
Ray nodded, and I rose, waving a hand at him.
“I’ll show you where the water coolers are; follow me.”
AJ scowled at me as Lizzie bowed her head, following me out of the meeting room.
“Hey, Reign, do you have a minute? I wanted your opinion on the new advert—” Lennie grinned, his floppy hair falling into his eyes.
He’d only been with us for two years, but he’d already changed so much. His artistic eye was something we’d been lacking for some time.
“Sorry, Lennie, another time?”
I didn’t wait for his reaction, but he wasn’t my concern.
Lizzie was.
The water cooler was beside a load of bean bags and foldable chairs, but I led Lizzie to the corner where a mustard armchair sat, complete with a navy throw.
I filled her cup, watching her intently.
Lizzie was pale, and something in her eyes told me she’d been through something traumatic.
“You won’t even look at me,” I said quietly, handing her the cup. “What’s wrong?”
Lizzie bit her lip and then sipped on the ice water.
“It’s nothing; I honestly felt car sick on the way here.”
I nodded, hitching my trousers on my thighs to crouch comfortably in front of her.
She finally met my eyes, and a smile played on her beautiful mouth.
“I’m fine, Reign.”
“Are you sure?” I glanced over my shoulder to the meeting room. “Because if that fucker has so much aslookedat you the wrong way, I’ll deal with it right now.”
“No, it’s just the car ride,” Lizzie repeated, shrugging her shoulders. “I didn’t get much sleep…”
Jealousy shot through me, but I couldn’t say anything.
Not yet — Not when I'd agreed to share her.
“Because of Zeus.” I stared down at the floor, heaving a sigh. “Lucky you, tonight you’re with me.”
Her head snapped up, a broad smile lighting her eyes.
“Really? Zeus said one of you would pick me up after work; I didn’t know it would be you.”
I smiled at her reaction, allowing my fingertips to brush against hers.
“You seem pleased.”
“I am,” Lizzie admitted softly.
“Let’s get through this, and then you can come home with me. How does that sound?”
Lizzie nodded, her eyes narrowing as she stared past me.
