“What’s this, a fucking mother’s meeting? I don’t pay you to sit with your lover, Elizabeth.”
I clenched my jaw, turning to see AJ glaring at us.
“I can pay her double to sit with me, AJ.”
AJ raised his eyebrows, his gaze flickering over to Lizzie.
“So you are her lover?” AJ sneered. “Are you resigning, Elizabeth?”
“No, I’m not.” Lizzie gritted out, sending me an upset look.
I exhaled through my nose as she finished the water, tossing it into the trash beside me.
“Thanks, Reign.”
“You’re welcome.” I watched AJ follow her with his eyes, turning back to me with amusement.
“Is she your new toy? Look what happened to the last one.”
I stared at him, wondering where he got the fucking audacity to speak to me like he did.
“She’s not a toy.”
“No? I suppose bending her over the sinks is a touching display of affection. Are you also sharing her with your buddies? You think you’re a changed man, Reign, but you’re not. You’re no better than me, and you know it.”
My rage owned me, my veins alighted with fire, and my fingers itched to grip him by the throat.
“I swear to God, AJ—”
“Gentleman! Can I bother you for your time?” Ray called out, giving us a goofy grin.
AJ smirked at me before turning to Ray.
“Sure thing; maybe you can help me convince Elizabeth to come out on a date with me.”
Over my dead fucking body.
“Well, I’ll be damned. You, dating?” Ray remarked. “Never thought I’d see the day.”
Ray returned to the meeting room, and AJ followed, stopping only to grin at me.
“Who knows? Maybe we could both change for the right woman.”
His words tumbled out of his mouth, but I stopped listening, tuning out so I didn’t lose my shit.
AJ didn’t care about Elizabeth.
AJ only cared about himself, no one else.
I crossed the room to my seat, watching AJ flirt openly with Elizabeth, who looked like he’d slapped her.
It’s all a game to him. He wants her because I do.
