Since when was Mr West like this?
“Yes.” I lied.
I was anything but fine.
“To the office then.”
I nodded, wiping my fingers beneath my eyes. I probably looked like absolute shit, but Mr West winked at me, pulling me into his arms.
“Don’t let people affect you so much,” Mr West sighed, brushing away my hair.
I rested my head against his chest, the rhythmic beat of his heart calming me.
“He’s my ex.”
“I guessed.”
“Thank you.”
Mr West stiffened, releasing me from his warm embrace.“I just didn’t want you to get into trouble for being late,” he joked. “So fucking go. I’ll tell security about that prick. How are you getting home after work?”
“I’ve got a ride.”
Mr West nodded, studying me like a dangerous animal without a leash.
“Then let’s go.”

I wasn’t. Not now, notever.
Lizzie wasn’t anything special, and the last thing I needed was for her to think she was. She’d been giving me gooey smiles all day, and it was irritating the life out of me.
So when she scurried into my office later that afternoon, I wasted no time educating her.
“Elizabeth, I’m not a nice guy.”
She stiffened but surprised me with her answer. “I know.”
“I’m a prick.”
“I know.”
“You’ve got balls, I’ll give you that. But don’t assume that I care about you. Because I don’t.” I held her gaze, hoping to see the smile fade from her pretty little face.
Elizabeth crossed her legs. “I don’t know your deal, but I’d appreciate it if you stopped fucking with me. The thing with Larissa, Reign, and now Brandon…” She waved a hand in the air. “It’s just too much for me right now.”
“I’m your boss, not your therapist,” I snapped, tugging my shirt open at the neck. Elizabeth watched me, the lust in her eyes burning a hole through my clothes.
Women are so fucking predictable.
Show them some emotion, and they’re putty in your hands.
“I know what you are,” Elizabeth whispered, her voice trembling.
