I crouch down to her large brown eyes that are half closed, the ball in her mouth covered in drool.

Delight flickers in his eyes as I stroke her skin.

“Masters,”I correct her, my eyes meeting his.

I blinked away from the past to find Elizabeth staring at me with concern.
“Reign, are you okay?”

“Okay, I’m sorry,” Elizabeth whispered, trailing her hand down my cheek, her eyes searching mine.
“I can’t let anything happen to you.” I kissed her forehead, and she tilted her head back, eyes locking onto mine.
“Nothing will happen to me.”
“No,” I stroked her cheek, clenching my jaw. “It won’t.”
